Yep. And it was the first time an act got Madonna's permission to sample her music. Not that she hadn't been sampled before http://youtube.com/watch?v=qGe_qhy8NXU [Edited 5/2/08 6:27am]

Can't argue that. It's the ONLY way it should be done in my book.

Well, post more examples! I only took the most mentioned ones where it is usually a huge collage. Graycap you will get a smack if you say Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em.

I find this album pretty difficult to listen to except for its mesmerizing production:

I don't know the album well enough, but I'm not too cool to admit that "Groove Is In The Heart" is an unstoppable combination of samples.

An example of a chunky sample molded into a new song of worth is "Rhythm Nation".

I remember when they were on Club MTV promoting this album and Julie Brown asked them their opinion of sampling (it was a hot topic at the time) and Lady Kier said, "If you use their music, den you should pay dem."

I doubt Deee-lite's record company actually paid everyone sampled on "Groove Is In The Heart". In 1990, samples that were only percussive breaks and not melodic weren't usually cleared.
