As a longtime Madonna fan since the 80s, I have 2 say I'm disappointed with her new album. Nothing like COADF which I listened non-stop; I'm skipping a lot of songs on this one, the thumping sound is annoying and the songs sound generic and pedestrian. I've come 2 expect a lot from her I guess, and this album is a step backward (or two or more) from COADF. I hope the album will grow on me but I'm just not loving it right now.

Warner couldn't have known in advance that the single would get 50 million+ AI.

Besides, selling 1 million downloads in 5 weeks means more money for Madonna & Warner than a #1.

I say they handled this single well.

If Hung Up could get 32+ million A.I., it's not exactly a stretch and I'm sure they thought this through.

Yet another Madonna single charting lower than its potential because of improper timing (Mariah always knows how to play it right to get that #1, so Madonna should take notes).

Selling 1 million downloads doesn't generate some sort of amazing revenue - in total it's much less than $1 million. She would have sold the same number of downloads regardless of when the single was sent to digital, anyway, since there is clearly digital demand for the track. I'm guessing if they had repressed it properly, it would have easily shifted 250-300k in its first week, and that would have likely been enough for #1. As it is, she will need to do that much this week just to get #2, and from its iTunes positions it's clear that won't be happening. Therefore, it's peaked, unless things change drastically before the tracking week ends.

hmmm It doesn't really matter what the song does from here on out. It's already a certified hit.A song that reaches the Top Three and stays in the Top 10 for six weeks is a hit as far as I'm concerned.Whether the peak position is Number One or Number three,a hit's a hit. It's officially her most successful single since "Music" in 2000.Honestly,I didn't think she would ever have a huge hit in America ever again.

Is it me or does this album get better and better with each listen? It's so good and so much fun to listen to. It's all I want to listen to at this point. I think I'm ready to grade each song. So this is my view of the song on 5/2/2008

Candy Shop - 5/5
4 Minutes - 3/5
Give it 2 Me - 5/5
Heartbeat - 5/5
Miles Away - 5/5
She's Not Me - 4/5
Incredible - 4/5
Beat Goes On - 3 1/2/5
Dance 2night - 3/5
Spanish Lesson - 2/5
Devil Wouldn't Recognize You - 4/5
Voices - 2 1/2/5

Overall I give it an A-. Even the songs with 2's aren't terrible and I don't rush to skip them. But overall, this album is just great. The real test is how will I see this CD 6 months from now. If I'm still playing it in November, then it's a classic. I have a feeling it's going to be just that for me.

Seeing Candy Shop performed live has given me a whole other apprecation of it. It would sound even better with some nice funky guitar licks in it - and maybe some powersome backing vocals from Donna & Niki.

Miles Away is slowly creeping upon me too. I hate describing this album as a grower - as a lot of it was instant for me (unlike parts of COADF and AL), but some of the tracks work their way into your brain and nag away at you. Hell even Spanish lesson has found its way in .....{shudders}

I like it more than JT's CD too, though I liked it a lot. I brought Nelly Furtado's CD but I still haven't finished listening to it and it's been around a year now. boxed I have to listen to the whole thing real soon. I can picture Nelly doing so many of the songs that are on Hard Candy and that's not a bad thing IMHO.

I just finished listening to "4 Minutes" & while I understand them keeping the song at exactly 4 minutes, this song sounds like it should go on for at least another minute. Its like the song is about to go somewhere else then Timbo comes in and abruptly stops if from gaining anymore momentum and for me that kills the song. You'd think there would be an extended version of this track coming out already, but then again this isn't 1988 anymore. Oh well, there are remixes out but I'd rather have this song be longer than to have some remix of it.

Actually it is. I love it when it becomes another song halfway in. That just makes me wanna dance, which is what I would have wanted to do with 4 Minutes. I take it you're not a fan of Incredible. lol

Another song that I wish was longer is Heartbeat. I can't stop playing that song for the life of me. That song is so kicking my ass right now. lol

Well, as we reported 2 months ago, Madonna’s new CD WILL hit number 1, but with her lowest debut EVA!!!! Even her late minute addition to 106th & Park on BET Friday won’t help her. We are hearing the cd will be in the 300,000 mark. The industry is changing and we knew the lack of digital media and tv appearances were going to hurt her. Yea, you have been on the cover of almost every magazine in the past two months, but the print media is a dying breed.

You bucked the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame by not performing on it. They may not pay you but remind everyone why you were inducted in your first year. Let people know you are still dynamic. Don’t do a 6 song set the week your cd comes out in front of 2,000. Do that after the hall of fame. You were once the forefront of what was hip or about to be hip, but perhaps doing it for the money instead of the music is leaving you in the back, because sometimes, the best marketing ideas are the ones that may yield you the least amount of the ca$h, but in the end, you will be rewarded.

The Queen of pop’s throne for the moment is vacant, but that does not mean Mariah is taking it. When you do an autograph signing, you stay until every fan has signed, just like Janet did when she had one earlier this year. Treat your fans with class throughout your career, not just at the beginning. You do that, in the end, you will have something more valuable than that green stuff.

Well I agree with Dr FB on this. She should have done performance of all or a good amount of her hits. It would have been great. Hell I would have gone to that. What she did on Wednesday was cool too but that would have been so special if she had done something at least that week of induction for the fans, especially with the amount of fans she has. I obviously don't know what's up with her life but it would have been a kind gesture IMHO.

I believe Madonna is now past the 'establishing records' phase. Times indeed are different. So people should just accept the fact that it's not 1984-1989 anymore. If she didn't perform for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that's her decision. I think that with her doing a 6-song set for her loyal fans who waited outside of the venue for hours is her being hip and cool.

I think signing autographs for fans is cool, but did that really helped Janet? Her album's pretty cool, but where is it now?

Important thing is that she's still around and making us all (who stayed loyal to her) very proud and happy. For others they just can't accept that at almost 50, she is still not considering staging a 'farewell tour' or becoming a Las Vegas act

That also goes for all Britney-, Mariah-, Janet-, Whitney-, Celine-lovers everywhere. The Queen of Pop is the one in every fan's heart. For us it's Madonna. She not only treated us with class.....she inspired us.

Who cares that Madonna didn't perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Her shows are very involved. Maybe she didn't have a chance to fully prepare. And her promo show at Roseland was free to her fans, so how does that show she's just interested in money?

I'm not a big fan of Mariah at all. But I don't see what the big deal about signing autographs is? I don't care about getting an autograph, what matters to me is an artist releases good music and gives great live shows. I don't see why an artist is required to give me personal attention. If artists gave every fan personal attention, they'd never get anything done. It's easy to judge someone but who knows why Mariah left the autograph signing session. Maybe she had something important to attend to. Don't judge until you walk in someone's shoes.

As it is, she will need to do that much this week just to get #2, and from its iTunes positions it's clear that won't be happening. Therefore, it's peaked, unless things change drastically before the tracking week ends.

Those are just assumptions you can make after you've seen "4 Minutes" on the charts for several weeks already. There was a considerable amount of fans who thought the song would flop because "Madonna at 50 singing with Justin is ridiculous and the whole world would laugh at her".

Warner had to do the gamble of releasing the download early, they were probably afraid of the fanbase not going on iTunes. While that was good for a #3 hit in the US (which is her highest charting since "Music" anyway, and Warner is surely glad about that), but it worked wonderfully in the UK when it was released on iTunes at the same time when it premiered in radio, and it went to #1 on its 5th week and is about to become one of her longest running #1s there.
