THE THE

Any The The fans on these boards. I recently downloaded all of my The The cds onto my mp3 player and have been having a great time listening to the music, which I had ignored for a while. Matt Johnson really was/is a genius.

Favorite albums, songs?

Album, I'd have to say "Infected"

Songs: Uncertain Smile, Giant, Out of the Blue and Into the Fire, Heartland, Angels of Deception, The Mercy Beat, Slow Emotional Replay, Helpline Operator, August & September, Armageddon Days (Are Here Again).

Agreed that Matt Johnson is an underachiever. He never was the most prolific of writers.

But, he had a massive fall out with Interscope/BMG in 2000 over the (non) promotion of Naked Self, and yet another falling out with Sony after the Greatest Hits came out and the early albums were reissued.

Although he could easily release music through his website, he's put out exactly two songs - Mrs Mac and Gun Sluts.

I think all of The The's albums are terrific. Wish he'd put out another. It's been what? - eight years since Naked Self.

Armageddon Days (Are Here Again) and Slow Emotion Replay are my favourite tracks.

Incidentally, "THE THE" has to be THE Number One most Internet Search Unfriendly band name ever! Have you ever tried finding their music/ CD's/ info online?! falloff
This is not an exit

That's funny you say that. I've just put in The The in search engines in the past and got basically nothing because the engine wouldn't search for "the". But most search engines now seem to realize that the double "the" signifies something. Best to put it in quotes ("The The") and put in the word "band."

one of my all time favorites...excellent songwriting and some of johnny marr's best work in my opinion. mind bomb and dusk are essential, near perfect albums.

my favorites include dogs of lust, gravitate to me, august and september ["...i pushed out my tongue for you to see, that i'm dying of a thirst for your company...", what a perfect lyric], uncertain smile. and i'm a sucker for any of the songs with harmonica, cuz i love to whistle.

yeah, matt johnson needs to get busy. nakedself wasn't good note to finish on...

The Jools Holland piano solo in "Uncertain Smile" is killer.

You can't Google "The The". You have to Google "The The Band".

That's probably holding them back.
