Carlos Santana: An Original Member Of Journey??? A heard a brief story on the radio the other day about Carlos Santana being a member of a group (sorry,I can't recall the name right now)in which he insisted the group change its name to 'Santana' after some early rehersals with the band. Supposedly after failing to convince the band he left the group. The band then changed its name to Journey. ..."think from a positive place, and eliminate the negative fate"...

I googled it, and apparently the story has some truth to it Journey and Santana have some link. Check the "Did you know" section in the right column of this page:

Yes, Neil Schon was in Santana's band. Carlos never played in Journey. "He's a musician's musician..."

http://www.coasttocoastti...kets.shtml Not surprising being that both bands are from the same area. I always knew Schon and Rollie hooked up with Carlos in "Santana" and then went and formed "Journey". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I find it interesting that no-one ever mentions the similarities of Neil's solo playing and Prince's. "He's a musician's musician..."

I think Schon has a much smoother, more precise and less processed sound. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Man, I've mentioned that on here more than a few times. Actually, one of the very first threads I wrote in this forum was how similar P's solo in Purple Rain was to the solo in Faithfully. This was BEFORE Journey discussed this on Howard Stern and how P "apologised" to them for biting. Neil and Jonathan said they thought it was an honour that P dug the song enough to bite from it. In the thread, I also went on to mention other other solos by Schon that P were obviously influenced by. I even remember sosgemini stating on this thread that P's solo on "I can Never Take The Place" reminded him of Schon. Prompting me to agree and stating that P 's solo to that song was influenced by Schon's solo to "Anyway You Want It". I remember that. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Well, come on, y'all, the music universe revolves around Prince, not vice versa, right? In any event, now that I think about that "Faithfully" solo, I can definitely see that. Doesn't mean I still don't love PR, I just now have greater respect for Schon. I guess I owe him a bit of thanks! Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

But listening to him more actually deepened my love for all music, so I have him to thank for disabusing me of that mindset. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

In my case, I was also a teenager in the 80's but with me, I was already listening to all types of music. So when I got hip to P, right away, I understood what he was doing. It didn't show so much on his debut, but defintely on his second. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Once again I learn something on the org.
I never heard the similarities. Carlos Santana is the thread through all modern music it seems. Woodstock, Journey, Prince, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and all of his modern-day stuff. His influence is amazing... Some people tell me I've got great legs...
