It's a shame when 20-something year-olds have more creative ideas about a special edition of a classic album than the artist who created it. confused

Lack of REAL communication with the fanbase has something to do it.

It's now common knowledge that SonyBMG and Michael's reps are regularly lurking the fanboards. Hell, one guy from SonyBMG recently joined KOP and MJJC! lol

The thing is, they lurk ones like MJJC and others where the member's age range is 14 and up and worship him and think "Well if that's what they want...."

If they took the time and ASKED the longtime and real fans, they'd get a completely different reaction. Did you see how fans on KOPD felt about the bonus content? We were pissed lol Whereas other fans were like "OMG, these remixes are great! I love Akon!"

Give me a fuckin break lol

That's why I've always freaking hated it when hit-making, talentless artists try to recreate the magic and originality of great songs by doing worthless remixes. It just don't mix, and i don't quite understand why others think it's hot or history-making. Oh, how we live in a such "superficial" world.

At least Sony could've did the same thing Universal/Hip-O did for Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear Expanded Edition: use diverse producers and mix the original songs in an old-school style with no overdubs, delivering previously unreleased alternate versions that are new visions of the songs. At least it worked for that excellent reissue of that particular classic album.

Man, they treat Marvin Gaye like the GOD he is but it's like with Michael, they (and he) obviously think that hype is all that it goes. It's unfortunate one of the greatest talents of our time have to hook up with non-talents just so he can have another platinum record in storage. Fuck that!

Silverchild, I had a COMPLETE tracklisting for Thriller 25 when I found out it was being released. I'm talkin a 3 CD compilation with unreleased songs, demos, alternate versions, remixes(that were actually good), and a DVD with the videos, live performances, behind the scenes footage, and commentary

My idea tracklisting completely pissed on the official one lol

And if your ideal tracklisting was used for THRILLER 25 instead of the official one, I would dishing out cash on that fast. I love your tracklisting very much.

I mean I'm not bashing Mike or anything, but if this Thriller 25 thing is just a hype vehicle to just prepare people for his anticipated upcoming album, then I believe Mike is going to have another flop on his hands. I'm not one to spectulate, but judging from the remixes i've heard, it's not really making me wink. It's really putting me to sleep. Poor Mike! sad

Well, you're wrong. (IMO) The reviews so far have been mostly awesome. It's the fans that have had a negative reaction to it. There have been promo spots everywhere (Including Australia which is rare lol ) and WBSS has done really well on the charts without a video or physical release.

Most artists do not "prepare" themselves for a new album with a re-release of another, so it shouldn't really matter. Michael's doing the right thing and getting himself out there after being away for so long. Thriller is going to be huge, I believe. Just do a google news search for "Thriller". lol

I ordered mine from hmv on the 7th and yesterday (8th) they said they have sent the album out to me. But i was a little confused because it doesnt come out till the 11th in the UK. I am just hopeing they havent made a mistake and sent me the 2001 special edition one. Maybe they are sending preorders over the internet off early, does anyone know if that is the case?

Exactly! Just look at the chartings on the Billboard. That just says something there.

The thing that I really want Sony/BMG to accomplish is to plan a deluxe reissue of Off The Wall. Not only is that Michael's best record, but it was the album that laid the true blueprint for most of the success for Thriller. Many people just pass this album and his solo Motown output by and think that Thriller was his landmark. Sure Thriller was a landmark, but Off The Wall was the real monster, artistically and performance-wise. It was the last time Michael ever displayed his real talent.

Exactly. IMHO, Off the Wall is the album that truly laid down the blueprint for modern popular music or what music can go if guarded right. Thriller set the format for MARKETING and MUSIC VIDEOS and the crossover but OTW is the nitty gritty. nod

I think this is more proof MJ needs to do a album that is r&b and soulful. If he makes songs that relate more towards pop radio,he won't get played a lot because many pop radio stations refuse to play his music.

R&B and Hip Hop stations will play his music if it's hot. WBSS just wasnt good enough of a track to get popular on r&b stations.

I think he'd get R&B airplay if Sony had released TGIM '08 or Billie Jean '08 but then again, I don't know how it would look afterwards. shrug

For real! Michael just isn't the pop god he once was during the eighties, when he was in his twenties. He needs to produce something that would at least get his adult fanbase rocking. He needs to go back to his pre-Thriller roots.

It's hard to escape facts. He is after all approaching 50 years old, he can't capture the same audience he did with his brothers in the late sixties and early seventies. And like you said, he can't capture the audience he did when "Thriller" and "Bad" were hot. I wonder if he'll realize it.

Pop radio stations are not showing MJ much love even if the songs are good. This is why i think his music has to relate towards r&b radio, but it has to be hot like Butterflies was in 2002. Just more songs like that with those soulful vocals.
