I gotta say, I'm halfway through the CD now and all i can say with what I've heard so far (I'm about to go into track 7, I left the CD book at home sad ) is this and it's from the words of Prince cause it fits perfectly:

This isn't music, this is a trip!

It's weird, it's strange but it's so funky it's scary. I haven't looked at the CD book yet, shame on me, but I hope it has the lyrics cause she's saying some really deep stuff in there. So far. this is an excellent CD. I can only imagine what is left for me to listen to.
[Edited 2/27/08 7:35am]

The lyrics are there along with her personal notations. When I read some of them I was like eek Twinkle alone is a head trip.

I mentioned earlier that she is like a super hero to me but now it is official. Analog Girl is the greatest superheroine Marvel comics never had.

Now I truly know why she said we should ‘help the bear’.

Janet who? Janet what? After that sorry GMA performance with that twisted wig Janet can take a long walk.

this is what happens when u think ur bold enough 2 step outside those that helped u 2 the status that she achieved (jimmy and terry) and get with a gremlin (JD)..i still haven't listend 2 20 y.o. after the 1st 3 tracks ...i stopped it but it back in2 the cd cover and left it where it's been since that day...

erykah hit it out the park and writes and sings about things that r of a mature and social conscience of the world

Id recommend listening to the J&T tracks (daybreak to love2 love) as they are great tracks especially Take Care.

Im still tripping because I did not expect so much raw nasty funk and weirdness. headbang

I say lets invade the hell out of an Erykah Show....headbang excited

I don't think YOU can handle Erykah live.....eek

Woman, I'm a Pisces. I'm an emotional freak! I can handle it! biggrin

OK, let's do this then! biggrin Do we even know if there are whispers of a tour??? lol

Listen! If you two go see Ms. Badu without me I will hunt you both down. lol

Ok. I think I've listened to this disc something like ten times since yesterday. I can already imagine the live show opening with Amerykhan Promise. The band jamming, the back up singers (including her kid sister) singing the main line for a few minutes until Ms. Badu finally struts on stage with her big ol' hair and (like the last time I saw her) her big Gucci purse around her arm and just stands there while we all go wild and crazy. She doesn't actually start singing until almost the end of the song and the noise from the crowd finally subsides....**sigh**

I just finished New Amerykah and I'm just blown away by it. I knew it was going to be good when I heard "Honey" on the radio but I didn't expect it to knock me the fuck out! I'm almost left speechless by this CD. It's dark yet not so dark that you leave the CD depressed. It's weird, which I expect and love about Erykah and most importantly, it's HELLA FUNKY! I totally didn't expect that one AT ALL! I actually had tears well up by the time it got to Honey and only Prince has done that kind of thing to me before. This is such an incredible CD and I'm about to listen to it again. This is a CD that MUST NOT be slept on! I'm telling people about this one and I'm ready for Part 2. I hope Erykah come to NYC soon cause I'm making it a point to go see her after this.

The song Amerikan Promise put me in tears today on the bus. I couldnt wait for another artist to come out with something thought provoking and funky. And I feel honored to have heard this album. I really do, she doesnt know how i feel.

Hell, it's sad NO ONE is doing anything like this either. Erykah went above and beyond the call of duty on this album and I didn't realize how much I needed this. I'm grateful. nod

Extremely bittersweet but Erykah's doing the thing. At least someone is. nod I pray to God that Prince hears this CD and gets his ass back in gear again.

UPDATE

Yes Prince should hear this album. I know he on another page however yes prince and Erykah so far have been the only ones to make me want to cry at the end of an album.

She really out-did herself. I feel a light has been shown and this album is marvelous. There is no filler, no roll over noise that i dont want to hear, so 'featuring T-pain" or anything to the norm with this album. It is love!

there are no words. i put this cd on right after an argument with my closest family member last night - "me" just about did me in right after going off on my lil sis.

"that hump" is just too much for me right now.

"honey" i love it more and more every spin. those words fit my feelings to a TEE right now.

"master teacher" - god how damn HOT is that breakdown in the middle to the jazzier beat, with "i stay woke" over and over

"The Healer" - can't wait till she opens her next show with this one! a modern musical masterpiece. love the unfinished sounds.

"solder" - fucking phenomenal

"the cell" - not great on first listen, hoping this one catches me more - i think it would go great with "danger" in concert

"nu amerykah" - love the intro, reminds me of "grindhouse" - the blaxploitation vibe is awesome. funky as shit. too bad it's just one big long sample with not enough vocals from Badu tho.

all in all - i don't know where to rank this one in the Badu masterpieces - i don't instantly love every song the way i did with WWU - but it took me a long time to warm up to "Mama's Gun" too, and that's now my all time fave album. i will say the lack of a coherent melody on some songs disappoints me. What's up with "My People" - how the fuck did that make the cut? She was smoking some super shit that session apparently.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

wow... My People is one of my tops
takes me back to "Bump It" from WWU
love the animalistic sounds & shit

input from Bilal is heard
all throughout this album
before I read the credits & saw
that he contributed vocals...
I JUST KNEW I'd heard Bilal in spots
and I was RIGHT!

My People is that crack to me
I love the chant style stuff
that she does... LOVE that side of her

very Joni Mitchell/Chaka Khan
"Dreamland"ish
I love it love

you'll grow into it I'm sure wink

It says it was co written and produced Edwin Birdsong. "Cola Bottle Baby" Daft Punk used his sample for "Harder Better Faster Stronger". It didnt have any sample credits; although it doesnt even sound like it was made in 2008, trying to wonder was that done on purpose or is it really a sample.
