Looks like Jennifer Hudson got the last laugh lol

Did she? It's been a few years and she hasn't even released an album although she probably started working on one before "Dreamgirls". We'll have to wait and see what happens to her. Something tells me if she was working as an actress under the old studio system, she probably would be dropped herself after a few years.

yes she did get the last laugh.. girl didnt even drop an album and she got awards.. she's not going anywhere.. cause even if music doesnt happen for her.. Hollywood is.. she is apart of the new 'Sex n the City' movie as well as.. some new one out with Forest Whitaker (Last King of Scotland) .. so i'd say.. she got a huge laugh in ..

I wish her luck but Academy Awards, especailly early on, tend not to always make career but often is the sign of a young actor peaking early. "Sex and the City" is a small role and I love Forest Whitaker, but he doesn't excatly bring asses in the seats. He has a career because he is the kind of guy that can do lots of different roles...He's not a movie star but a great character actor (He wrote and directed some movies as well...Notably "Waiting To Exhale"...not so notably the noitirously annonyily titled "Hope Floats").

If Jennifer is concerned with having any kind of singing career (which she doesn't really have now even if you count her verison of "Not Leaving Without You" as a hit, which I don't think it was) the album should be out soon...It's been a year since "Dreamgirls". Talk about striking when the iron is cold as ice! That album should have been out years ago...the fact that it hasn't proves the doubtful idea that she is incapable of making a good album. she's got a good voice and something tells me she isn't even thinking about calling any of the other shots). More likely the record company had little to no idea what to do with her (come to think of it...is she even signed to a label?) and she has spent years recording albums worth of stuff, good or bad. Don't be shocked if SHE gets dropped from her label (which might be spinned into her moving labels or going indie).

I hope acting goes well for her. It's sad that there are a lack of black women that are movie stars and those that are often make one or two off choices that hamper them for life. Halle is still licking her wounds from "Catwoman". Even though people raved about her last movie, nobody saw it.

Well dont just think its all about AI's getting dropped because there are more to come and that already happend, labels are really hurting in terms of marketing costs and just not getting that money back, like i said an artist can even sell a million but if your spending 20 million to promote them, thats just bad business plain and simple. BMG/RCA/SONY is having some major issues that i can tell you, probably more than Universal had this year, and since they had alot of these one-deal ideals they dropped them since they figured they have to make room for what comes from this season. In an article yesterday, BMG talked about "letting go" of these artists mainly because they felt they would benefit more from being on their own, they felt Ruben was too mature for the market, as was Taylor and that Katharine, though she has the vocals they didnt feel they could turn her into a pop diva which is what they wanted. Mcphee is already in talks with two labels, one being Hollywood Records which did well with Hilary Duff and marketing her more overseas than here for her current album, they feel Mcphee could have international appeal, and BMG just isnt equipped to pull that off right now (meaning money troubles at the label).

my feeling's aren't hurt. i've read several articles about all the firings and lay-offs at labeles these days; both artists and label staff. i suppose it's an inevitable consequnece of the changes in music .

I don't know anybody who actually bought any of the AI albums. Why bother? None of these folks are especially talented, they just have nice voices. And I'm sorry, but a nice voice does not a star make.

When AI first started I was really bothered by the concept that a person could become famous and get a record contract just by winning a karaoke contest. But now that a few years have gone by and I've seen various careers crash on lack of true talent, I'm unconcerned. smile
