I guess Sheile E, The Time,Nikka Costa,Jill Scott, Chacka Khan and a host of other performers he has been working with on stage over the last 4 years are untalented.

Look, just because I don't get the guy doesn't mean he doesn't have talent. That's just my opinion. Can't I have one of those?
I have downloaded his 2 albums and I just don't get the appeal. Besides, Prince has a 30 year career and we all know that something like this will not ever happen. He doesn't seem to be a fan of "new comers". He does like a lot of them, but he loves the spotlight too much to let someone like Van open up for him. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I dont get Van Hunt either. I bought the first album because of the great reviews. Once I listened to it I wish I could have returned it.

I think a lot of Prince fans see Van Hunt as the "young Prince" (Prince ala Dirty Mind, Controversy eras) because Van Hunt has that raw energy, sex appeal, some raunchy lyrics, etc. and basically Prince is his inspiration and it shows all too well

i mean there is a definite influence, and Van's bowed to pieces like "When Doves Cry" but i don't see him as walking in that little purple midget's shoes.. he's a culmination of his musical past, just because prince was apart of it i don't think that he is in fact copying or emulating him it's like prince and jimi, it's too much of an exaggeration but the influence is there.. Yeah he's not copying Prince, because he is someone that definitely wants to be known for his own style and it just so happens that his style is a reflection of musical artists of the past: Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Prince, etc. mixed with his own originality and uniqueness I was at his show in S.F. coupla months ago and there were so many Prince fans in the house that night | |
