I read that he was too expensive and did nothing, so they dumped him.

I read that he was the one that discovered Ne-Yo and Rhianna. [Edited 12/26/07 7:22am] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

He did nothing!! I don't think the CEO should be an artist (lookin' at Diddy).

[Edited 12/26/07 7:10am] ummm...Jayz has been around for a minute. I don't have issue with him as an artist. he should have stayed retired though.

J=Zee at Def Jam sucked. His only notable signings were Ne-Yo and Rihanha and I doubt he was the one who actually found them. (come to think of if, Ne-Yo was at Def Jam before J-Zee was the CEO). PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

The entire idea of having him as an executive was to re-brand Def Jam after Irv Gotti was there, and attract new artists to the roster, but I couldn't name any of the new artists Jay-Z might have attracted or signed to Def Jam during his tenure. Worth looking into though if you were really wondering what difference Jay-Z made.

if anything, he was the reason for a lot of artist leaving. i lot of people there had issues with the CEO also being considered the competition. And you know J being CEO must've done some thangs to all of the rap artists E-G-O, including Jay-Z's. . [Edited 12/26/07 12:36pm]

All I know is the idea of "Roc-A-Fella" as a label is a little jacked up now.

[Edited 12/26/07 12:36pm] Wasn't LL Cool J one of the artists who was having problems with Def Jam at during Jay-Z's time as CEO? I thought I heard something about Def Jam not doing enough to promote one of LL's CD's. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Yeah, LL complained that his last albums weren't being promoted because Jay refused to give it leniency for someone like Rihanna.

Jay just looked more like a spokesperson for Def Jam than an actual CEO. I'm glad he realized that he's better as an artist than a CEO. The whole thing looked stranged to me from the start. yeah, I know LL was pissed, but in Jay-Z's defense, LL makes some crappy albums. Yeah he is a legend, but at least every other album is trash, so if I were president, I wouldn't spend millions of extra dollars to push a crappy album either. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!
