It's says the 2nd disc actually features he alternate versions of the original tracks. The new producers are just mixing it, to make it into a track, I believe. MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

And looking at the list of remixers, they didn't "seem" to choose anyone who would be sacrilegious when it comes to Marvin. Besides, it does say "no overdubs" ... meaning no new instrumentation... just mixing. It still sounds promising. John Morales mixed the Love Man sessions and he did an excellent job IMHO... [Edited 11/22/07 18:03pm] I agree! Whether this edition has unheard, rare stuff or even remixes, I'm just glad this has finally got deluxe treatment. I hope it inspires a whole new generation of fans who might only remember the genius for What's Going On & Let's Get It On. I don't know whether or not I will cop it now, though! The main reason why I've preordered it is because of not only the remastering, but the deluxe packaging and liner notes. Can't wait, man! The remixes are probably going to be good, especially ?uestlove's mix. "Everything Must Change, Nothing Stays The Same!"

Yup pretty much. I'm not exactly thrilled about the way this is presented. But the choice of people they have selected gives me hope that the mixes won't be vomitrocious. Since none of these alternate versions have seen the light of day until now, it makes me believe that these people are truly only mixing the sessions to their liking... not remixing in the sense of adding some rapping here and drum tracks there. No overdubbing! And everything being used is from the original multi-track masters. You know I was just making conversation, I wasn't trying to school you. This is one of my all-time favorite albums. But I could care less what some shit modern artists have to say about mixing Marvin's tracks. Whether or not to order this all depends on how the remastering sounds. Anyone heard the tracks yet? The old CD master is okay, but if it has been significantly improved (a la Stevie's remasters), then I'm all over this shit! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Here's what Questlove has to say about his role in "remixing": In a nutshell, he says Motown is cheap and didn't have to spend a penny by asking artists like himself who would kill to have the opportunity to work with/own some Marvin masters instead of hiring studio engineers to do it.
i did nothing but engineer it.think james brown "in the jungle groove" album. personally those mixes are WAAAAAY better than the album versions.
(compare talking loud and soul power and ESPECIALLY funky drummer) they are misleading yall by saying we "remixed" them. we engineered em... think Kenny Dope with the j5/bt express shit. --then again i can only speak for me my project was ed townsend's vocal demo for "sparrow" in which you hear marvin obnoxiously chewing gum as he directs the band --actually i added a lil joke i slipped past the motown cats in which marvin is having a one way conversation with an assistant engineer who is adjusting the mic before he sings in it: marvin 1977-say man ?uesto-2007-hey mar (the sound of a soda tab opening) you want some of my fresca? marvin- yeah...thanks man...thanks ?uesto 2007-solid then townsend walks in the room and they speak about the background and some vocal ideas (ed does some singing which is so bad motown made me recall it to fade him out on the offensive notes.) so basically its a rough demo i mixed before marv added final vocals. but you hear him direct the band you hear banter tween him ed and me. here's a review from an okayplayer who received it:
having just received this today and listened I can assure you all that there is nothing to worry about regarding the questionable second disc. There is no scratching, rapping, or shoutouts to be found. lol
Given the nature of Marvin's recording style, with countless takes, vocal tracks, and alt versions, there's plenty of material which allowed the producers to breathe new life into these songs while staying true to the output from the original sessions. And, for the record, the Easy Mo Bee "I Met A Little Girl" mix is exquisite, as is Salaam's "Falling in Love Again" and well, pretty much everything else on here. Because we have to remember Easy Mo Bee did an interesting version of the Tempts' "Just My Imagination" and Salaam worked with Amy Winehouse so I never expected that (the scratching, rapping, etc.) nWo (aka FUNK 3.0): bboy87 - timmy84 - muthafunka - littleBLUEcorvette - phunkdaddy - christopher

nothing when you can get the original version on cd for 7.98? for the same reason folks dropped $30 for the deluxe/expanded editions of What's Going On, Let's Get It On, I Want You and In Our Lifetime. The fact that this album is remastered is truly worth it. There was really no point in name dropping all of those people who mixed these songs. They did a good job. The only complaint I have is that the drums are dropped out of the mix on too many songs... But the version of Anger? whooo [Edited 12/11/07 18:06pm] You know I was just making conversation, I wasn't trying to school you. No need to be nasty about it. © ernestsewell
