I hope it is not true. Kanye is her only child and the way he talks about her it seems she is his world.

November 11, 2007 - ABC7 Chicago News has confirmed the death of Donda West, the mother of hip-hop superstar and Chicago native Kanye West. Details are still emerging and a cause of death has not been released.

A spokesman for the Chicago native says the rapper's mother died last night in Los Angeles.

Donda West had recently written a book about the Hip-Hop superstar titled, "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar ".

Donda West was a tenured English professor at Chicago State University before moving to California two years ago to manage Kanye's growing entertainment business.

In a 2004 interview with ABC7's Cheryl Burton, Donda West recounted Kanye's decision to drop out of Chicago State University to pursue his music career. "We went back and forth and he was able to convince me that is was more important to follow his dreams," Donda West said.

I read something about a complication from a surgery but still haven't heard official word but not that I really want to.

Man, this is sad! I know Kanye is so messed up at this moment than he has ever been. My prayers go out sincerely to he and his family. In fact, I live in Chicago, about a mile from Chicago State University on 95th and King Drive, where his mother was the chairman of the English department. I can't believe she is gone, since she was such an inspiration to him and they seemed so close. R.I.P. Miss Dedona West

I know his heart is aching.

That's so sad I'll be praying for him.

So....she was having her breast augmented and a tummy tuck and died as a result of an allergic reaction to the medicine.....see, thats why I always say, surgery is surgery....there are always risks. So sad she had to go this way due to something that she could probably have lived without doing.
