My only question as i said before, though I love the Eagles and im glad whenever veterans pull these numbers. Was the record counted as 1 or 2 since its a double record. Also the 11.88 list price at Walmart puts each disc at 5.94 which doesnt qualify as an album/ep price, if we remember back in 1999 Prince's new master charted as an album because it was over 6 dollars on list price had he lowered the price under 6.98 then it would have been a single.

Wow@The Eagles. Those are some big numbers.

As for Britney, I was expecting her to sell more than that. I thought for sure she'd be #1.

I was totally expecting Britney to debut at number one and with higher numbers. Everyone in the media will pounce on this as a failure and it probably ulimately is. Anyone think it will break a million, US? I have major doubts and assume only hardcore fans bought it this week and that's all that's left (when at Target, I saw some girls look and point out the Britney CD and go "Eww!").

Even if you cut the Eagles number in half, they still easily make number one, so that's crazy. I, for one, forgot it was coming out. Guess being only at Wal-Mart didn't hurt but maybe helped! But it's been forever since the very popular Eagles made an album!

Backstreet not cracking 100K...Guess nobody expected much but talk about a huge contrast for both Britney and Backstreet and the days when they sold over a million the first week (will those days ever exsist anymore for anyone...Eagles pretty amazing numbers!).

They were right about the sales projection but they thought Britney had it in the bag. Yep, the Eagles were overlooked. That's revenge for the rock dinosaurs and for one I'm happy because I dig some of their stuff. cool Congrats, Eagles!

Im still questioning these numbers, not that i doubt the Eagles popularity at all and like their music, soemthing is up here. 700,000 units at one retailer? there are alot of things in question here, the price is a major issue, since its price at 11.88 this technically doesnt qualify as an album since that would put each disc at 5.94 which is over a dollar less than the price accepted for an EP to chart on the album charts, this could be called "dumping" a term that was invented when Destinys Child and Mariah Carey had singles priced at 49 cents debut at number 1 and 2. So im not doubting or debating the Eagles, since they have always sold well and its 30 years since their last studio record and this is billed as their last work, but i simply dont trust Walmart and its ways.

Tuls101

Is it up to Billboard or Wal-Mart whether to decide if the Eagles are eligible to chart? It's a little ridiculous NOT to include them, 700K is nothing to sniff at these days! If they aren't included just add that to the list of things that make the Billboard charts pretty irrelevant in this day and time.

lol Yeah...

In related news, the Eagles also stopped Britney from reaching the top in the UK too. "Long Road Out of Eden" is their first number-one UK album ever. Britney also debuted at number-two on that chart.

Walmart has a special deal with the eagles!
Walmart outright bought 3million copies of the album with no return policy! so the eagles already got paid for 3million copies! That is money in the bank already

Thats not wise, no-return policy. Trust me that is what brought alot of retailers down, and thats what Prince tried ALOT with albums like NEWS, the One Nite Alone Box set, he did it with RainBow Children too, but that deal was with Best Buy since they owned the company distributing it for him. I read alot into Don Henleys decision to go with Walmart and though i applaud him usually he really is going back on his corporate beliefs with this one by allowing Walmart to have this exclusive on their music for a year and then giving it to other retailers after that, which i doubt they will buy into, no one is gonna buy a year old record.

Could be. Some crazy AP report was saying the Eagles and Britney BOTH have number-one albums. falloff Apparently "Wal Mart doesn't report sales to Soundscan" or something like that, which is a LIE! lol I don't know, but even if so, it doesn't take away that the Eagles are number-one in ENGLAND over Britney, lol.

Its not really bitching, i have more respect for the older artists always, but my concern is how this is undercutting stores from stocking their product by putting in stores that are not looking to music as a thing to keep going, lets face it Walmart is losing money on these cds, but they get the prestige of having the record, thats mainly my concern, im not a fan of the Big Box retailer because they are the ones that are killing music in general. And for those of you who believe in older artists and catalogs and bringing things back like Vinyl, places like Walmart and Best Buy are not in your corner at all, in fact most of them are cutting their music stock space by 20% in the next year, in favor of things like Cell Phones and Ringtones.

Guess they couldn't ignore independent distribution like that after so long. The music industry has to kick in with sales, I mean, the latest albums on sales have been low for those who have hit number one and the main reason why some albums did 500-700K in the first place was either because of hype (50, Kanye) or they had a loyal fan base (Bruce).
