they r still eligible in the comprehensive charts but in the past walmart has refused to release the data!
In the uk the eagles sold 3 times what britney did and r #1 there too! they r also #1 in many other countries

Not surprised since technically although there is debate, the Eagles have the biggest selling album of all time, though MJ fans think not, alot of things were not counted in MJ's totals like return to vendor copies which were counted against the Eagles. But anyway, i still dont understand why they took this through Walmart since early on they said it would just be through their website because they were sick of the corporate world owning them. Ive always hated these exclusive deals because you cut your fans out, which is why i dont support any of these Walmart/Best Buy exclusives, if the artist doesnt sell it through their site or a real music retailer (which there are none anymore) then i dont get it on principal.

Just a few things in question with the Eagles numbers however which arent jiving. Are they being counted as one, since its a double record or is it doubled? And second of all, the List Price on this record is 11.88, which comes down to 5.99 per disc, which i believe if i remember back to the Prince 1999 new master fiasco, this puts the Eagles below the necessary list price to qualify as an album. This is what happend to Prince when he wanted the New Master on the singles charts, but because the single was over 6 dollars he lost that debate. Not trying to take away from the Eagles because i love them and respect what they did for artists rights, i just hate WALMART .

I believe the double counting rule applies only for RIAA certifications and not for over-the-counter sales.

Revised Chart Policy Lands Eagles At No. 1
The Eagles
November 06, 2007, 8:30 PM ET
Mitchell Peters, L.A.

The Eagles' first new studio album in 28 years, "Long Road Out of Eden," takes a short route to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 after Billboard revised a significant chart policy today (Nov. 7).

In consultation with Nielsen SoundScan, Billboard will now allow exclusive album titles that are only available through one retailer to appear on The Billboard 200 and other charts, effective with this week's charts. Prior to this, proprietary titles were not eligible to appear on most Billboard charts.

Early SoundScan numbers have the Eagles taking the top perch on The Billboard 200 with 711,000 copies sold, with most sales moved by Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores. For now, the only other U.S. outlets carrying "Eden" are walmart.com, where both physical copies and downloads are sold, and the Eagles' own Web site.

"Eden" became available at the mass-market chain Oct. 30. Aside from two compilations, this is the Eagles' first album since the mostly live "Hell Freezes Over," which led The Billboard 200 for two weeks in 1994.

Britney Spears' new Jive album, "Blackout," which would have been No. 1 had the Eagles' data not been reported, will open at No. 2 with first-week sales of 290,000 copies.

"We know that some retailers will be uncomfortable with this policy, but it was inevitable that Billboard's charts would ultimately widen the parameters of to reflect changes that are unfolding in music distribution," says Geoff Mayfield, Billboard's director of charts. "We would have preferred to make this decision earlier, but only became aware within the last 24 hours that Wal-Mart would be willing to share the data for this title with Nielsen SoundScan."

The revised policy initially impacts The Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums, where "Eden" will also bow at No. 1. Criteria for the remainder of Billboard's albums charts will be formulated later this week. A handful of other titles will debut this week on The Billboard 200 as a consequence of the policy revision.

Previously, titles that were not generally available at retail were not eligible to appear on The Billboard 200, but were entitled to chart on Billboard's Top Comprehensive Albums, which includes catalog titles and proprietary albums from retailers willing to report those sales.

The comprehensive chart will continue to appear on Billboard.biz, to show how catalog titles compete with the overall market. However, once parameters for the remainder of the album charts are determined, Top Comprehensive Music Videos will be discontinued, as exclusive titles will then be eligible for the Nielsen SoundScan-fed Top Music Videos.

It was interesting to hear Don Henley's comments on why he went to WalMart with the record, which, though im a fan of them, im against it morally. Basically Henley used them as a place that could house their product and have enough locations to store the merchandise, and could sell it cheaper than others. That is what got me "cheaper than others" he basically is killing any music stores by doing this, which is strange since Don speaks about saving the music from corporations, and yet he "sells out" basically? The Thing is Don could have put this in any store and it would have done the numbers. I know we all think BIG DEAL, but look at the bigger picture, not just the numbers, stores like best Buy and Walmart are not looking to "save music" they are going to cut their catalogs 20% next year and their music space in stores, and trust me, they arent going to stop carrying things like Omarion and Rihanna, they will stop carrying things like Miles Davis though in a heartbeat.

Well Miles Davis ain't ever been in my Wal Mart store (which sucks) but oh well. lol But I have to say that it's funny they're doing this after seeing what Britney sold. They probably thought "fuck it, we ain't about to get into no fight, give the Eagles the top spot NOW!" lol

The thing with that is it's not specific. We wouldn't know unless it was made known. MJ has the greatest selling album for a solo artist of all time. Okay. Hell, I/we the fans didn't make that up. It's really not that serious.
I'm so happy for The Eagles! I love I CAN'T TELL YOU WHY. But, i think they have the biggest selling album for a group and or band.
Screw it! MJ is in great company! lol

Thank goodness that some people in this world still know good music when they hear it. I don't give a shit how old the Eagles are or what anyone has to say about them. They are making real music and that's what really matters to those of us that still appreciate real music.

Fuck Britney Spears. She's a useless c*nt

Britney didn't debut at #1? eek OMFG!!! woot! dancing jig I'm soo happy. touched She doesn't deserve another number one album. She barely had anything to do with this album besides slapping her name and image (barely) on it and recording her weak-ass vocals. She's such a puppet rolleyes She reminds me of group projects in grade school...there was always that one little muthafucker who didn't do anything on the project, but still got the same amount of credit as everyone else in the end. Screw that! The President of Jive was doing more promoting of her album than she was (for obvious reasons of course). The only reason the album is good is because her record label paid the best producers to make it so...not because of Britney. If the album is getting praised by the critics, than the praise should be going to the producers, songwriters, and others who made the album what it is. I was shocked to recently find out that Pharrell Williams wrote the K-Fed diss song on his own after reading several news clippings. I should have known better than to believe that Britney was smart enough to come up with a diss song...falloff . It makes sense that Billboard count the Eagles new album because it sold almost 3X as many albums as Britney's. Maybe if she had promoted her album a little more instead of making constant trips to Starbucks and the gas station, she would have decreased that enormous gap, but her priorities obviously lie in other areas...sadly none of them seem to be her career or her children. Maybe when Jive drops her from the label, she'll get some much needed therapy. Go Eagles!!!!

As crazy as it is to wish someone sucess and be obessed with it, it's even worse to put all this energy into their failure. I'm a Britney fan (although I'm only Ok with this album). If Britney has a number one album, it doesn't mean music is dead. As for the Eagles, aren't they like the savors of music? They are soft rock. They sound nice, but most Neil Young tracks do as well and he has substance....and yet he is only 22 this week.

Wal-Mart is hooked into Sounscan, so what do you mean, they don't release the data? They don't have to. Soundscan does.
