Alexander O'Neal

Do any of you orgers like Alex? I've always loved the big old bear, with that fantastic voice of his. I am acutally going to see him soon in a "cabaret" setting in my town, I can't beleive it, a nice meal, bottle of wine, and Alex as the entertainment. I know he may be regarded as a has-been by some people, but I think has one of the best soul voices I've heard. I can't wait!

His are some of my favorite R&B songs of their era. Great voice. Great songs. Terrible performer of late. Went to his show last year and that bitch spent most of his time cussing and sweating.

Yeah, you will. Even the drunk sistah in front of me with the big red hat wasn't into it. Her feet were like, "Heeeeey," but her eyes were all "WTF?" Disappointing, for sure.

I don't mind if he's cussy and sweaty, so long as he sings alright, lol. I love all of those songs, personal fave is If you were here. I saw him at his peak in the 80's and he used to have a double bed on stage, and select a girlie from the audience to sing that song to, whilst getting her horizontal.

thumbs up!

A.O. and Cherelle could have been the Marvin & Tammi of the 80's.

Really? Are you sure they were good? lol Glad you had a good time.
I saw them at that same venue last year. Deja and Lothan were with me. In Lothan's words, it was a "hot ghetto mess." lol

NO they was a mess. Alexander O Neal looked like he had a FEW befor the show. They were extremely late too. Cherrelle did a better job dancing with girls onstage and doing Beyonce and Crank That dance. They didnt have a band this time though. By the time both of them were onstage together I forgot how long I stood for them

Hey, I love Alexander O'Neal. He's one of the great singers to have came from Uptowm during the 80's 'Minneapolis Sound' era. I still play some of his joints now. Like the 12' inch version of 'What's Missing', 'Innocent', 'If You Were Here Tonight', 'A Broken Heart Can Mend', 'Fake' (album and 12' inch version), Criticize, 'All True Man', 'What Can I Say To Make You Love Me', and 'What Is This Thing Called Love'. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did some great (if not some of their greatest) production with Alexander O'Neal. He has some great songs and a strong voice. One of the greatest singers to come from Uptown.

Alex has a great voice but man does he sweat on stage !! I remember seeing him at the Hammersmith Apollo and after 5 minutes he looked like he stepped out of the shower (while forgetting to take his suit off)

Enjoy the cabaret-cum-concert. Just don't forget to take a brolly

biggrin

It's nice to read all of your comments and views. It seems that it could go either way, it could be an unforgettable treat, or a complete disaster, depending on whether Alex is on form or not! I've watched a few clips of his recent performances that people have posted on the net, and they were good, his voice sounded great. I'm not going until the end of November, I'll post a line or two afterwards and let you know how it was.
