Forgotten Jam Of The Day: "There's Nothing Like This" by Omar Before we talk about this classic I have two questions. Firstly, was this a hit in America? It was huge in the UK. Secondly, I don't know if Omar was mentioned in the R&B One Hit Wonders thread, but he's a prime candidate. Everyone thought he was going to be the Elvis of British soul when he released this in 1990, but he never did follow it up. Still, if you're gonna be known for one track it might as well be a great one. Anyone else feeling this? “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

It was a hit in UK, and it was a great song. I know Omar went onto work with America producers but I am not sure whether he made an impact on the American charts. I know after "there nothing like this" he went on to do quite a few albums but the only other single I remember coming from him is "Golden Brown". I don't know why he didn't become a bigger star. | |

Hmmm, it can't be coincidence that the only two people here who seem to know the song are British. Chances are the US missed out on this one. Oh well, here's the video in case anyone wants to know what we're talking about. http://www.youtube.com/wa...FnclBOlr6o “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
