I always thought it was late 1979 also and that it may have spilled over into 1980 with other songs such as Shalamar's "Right Dead In The Socket", Mass Production's "Firecracker", Rick James' "Come Into My Life", and Donna Summer's "Sunset People".

The Invisible Man's Band was originally called The Five Stairsteps and had several top 20 singles in the 1960s and 1970s.

"You Waited Too Long"
"World of Fantasy"
"Come Back"
"Danger! She's a Stranger"
"Something's Missing"
"Don't Change Your Love"
"Baby You Make Me Feel So Good"
"We Must Be in Love"
"From Us to You"

I'm sure the song you're mentioning is "O-o-h Child"

The Burke family (Clarence, James, Dennis, Keni, Cubie and sister Aloha) were the members. Keni had a single, "Risin' to the Top," that was a radio station favorite in the early 1980s.

I remember it getting a lot of play in early 1980. I just couldn't remember exactly when though. It definately feels like it was made in 1979 because it's so disco sounding. "Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc. is another disco jam that came out in 1980 after the so-called "death of disco".

In all likelihood,it was recorded in 1979.Many of the songs that came out in early 1980 ("Stomp" by the Brothers Johnson, for example) still sounded very disco-y lol That's why I like early 80s R&B so much. The music still sounded like it did in the 70s.Hip-hop and New Jack Swing hadn't taken over yet.
