NBC Cheeses Up Dreamgirls' "We Are a Family"

Somehow I find myself really sad that I missed this the first go around. It's from the 1986 celebration of NBC's 60th anniversary. Total fucking cornball. All that's missing is Gary Coleman poppin' out at the end to say, "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout NBC?" Or maybe Diff'rent Strokes had already switched networks by then. I don't know. I don't care. All I do know is that this shit is awful.

Nell Carter, Bea Arthur, Alfonso Ribeiro, Soleil Moon Frye, Marla Gibbs and Charlotte Rae all singing some fucked up high camp version of We Are a Family from Dreamgirls.

Yes,'Different Strokes' was on ABC at this point.NBC decided to cancel it after the 1984/85 season and at the last minute,ABC decided to take it.Interestingly,'Different Strokes' effectively killed 'Three's A Crowd'.ABC didn't have room for both shows so they kept 'Strokes' and dumped 'Three's A Crowd' (which was an awful show, imo) after only one season.

Don't ask me how or why I know these things nuts

It is cheeseball but you have to admit...they dont make shows like that any more...I mean 'Golden Girls', '227', 'Gimmie A Break', 'Facts of Life'...I grew up watching all of these...great actors, classic shows...I actually got all warm and fuzzy inside watching that...a piece of my childhood was invested in all those actors' shows.

peace

Good gravy. lol I'm not saying anything about quality of those shows. There is, after all, a Golden Girls quote in my signature.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I miss shows like that, too! The last thing I watched on tv show that I actually sat all the way through was The Soprano's series finale. disbelief

Unless Prince gets his own show, I may never watch tv again! neutral
