I thought this was a good episode...and I learned myself something new; I was familiar with the group Yellow Magic Orchestra thru that jam "Firecracker" but I didn't know until seeing this that it was a Japanese band behind that...that Japanese guy they had on the dance floor was jammin!

"Firecracker" was the sh%t back then. The R&B station by me used to play that all the time. It was an OK episode, but I'm still waiting for Don to bring out the "gems".

I caught the 2am episode. "Fuzzy, Grady, & Calvin" are on next week?

Yeah, all the 'black' radio stations in NYC played that during the summer of 1980. Classic jam.

I've yet to see a news story actually confirming this. I'm hoping the news is false. I wanna see my boy (Marvin) on the classic shows. I'll never forgive Don if he decides to air the new ones. disbelief

Back to the b.s. is right. New episodes in Sept? Sad. It'd be great if they showed back to back new and old. We'll probably never see these shows on DVD due to song right clearances.

You know what I'm thinking, maybe one station will show the new episodes but other stations will show the older ones. smile

I just wanna get something clear. I did not watch yesterday's episode. I was
not familiar with this yellow magic orchestra. I noticed you guys said they played a song called firecracker. Now is this the same firecracker that mass production released in 1979.
Sample of lyrics: Firecracker dance for me, i just like to see the way you
move.
Burning up burning up. Can't seem to get enough of you firecracker.

If this is the same tune then tht yellow magic orchestra is a cover band.
Don't laugh at my funk

That was a great episode. I loved seeing the Yellow Magic Orchestra perform "Computer Games". That was THE jam in the skating rinks back in the day. The funky Asians were getting funky as hell with the Asian funk. That's a rare jam these days and I'm sure it's probably a rare performance by the group.

I've heard a lot of folks call it "Firecracker". I don't know why. I've always known it as "Computer Games". It's even listed as "Computer Games" on a compilation CD I have.

It sounds nothing like Mass Production's "Firecracker". To me, "Computer Games" sounds a lot like Kraftwerk.

In September, "Soul Train" will be abandoning the funk and will be bringing back R&B....."Rhythmless Bullshit".

Sister Sledge again!? I'm getting tired of seeing them. This will make the third time. lol I'm assuming that episode will be from 1981 with Ray Parker, Jr doing "A Woman Needs Love", Smokey Robinson doing "Being With You", and....I forget what Sister Sledge had out that year....."All American Girls" maybe?

Anyway, Hi Abdul. Who is going to be on "Soul Train" this weekend....July 21? I went to the TV Guide website but they didn't have any info yet.
