White Stripes--Icky Thump

Anyone heard this yet?

I think I'm gonna have to buy it right now.

I wasn't that crazy about Get Behind Me Satan. Some good stuff, but I actually liked the Racantours album better. It had a fuller and more conventional fleshed out sound.

I hope the new Stripes isn't trying too hard to be different.

I really enjoyed Icky Thump. It's more of a throwback to their older material, but it's still all good. The main riff in the title track is a sinister son of a bitch!

I've heard that song, and I liked it. You're right, it reminded me of older stuff like De Stijl. Simple & hooky, with big guitar.

Since I'll be seeing them live next month, I have to get the album. I also have to pick up Nick Cave's Grinderman since they will be opening. Sounds like a really good bill.

I agree. I actually like the Racanteurs more than the White Stripes at the moment. Level was my song last summer. But Icky Thump (the song) is catchy as hell so I think I'm gonna check out the new album.

They're coming to my town in September so I might see them. They're a good live act.

I dig The Raconteurs, the White Stripes somewhat.
Listened to the album and thought I'd point the second song out. It sounds a lot like Bad Company's Shooting Star http://www.youtube.com/wa...fyLfimk55M

I saw the video for Icky Thump on tv yesterday, and I think I liked the song, but I wasn't quite sure lol
After a few more listens, I'll probably love it though.
Thats how it tends to go, with their music.
If you will, so will I

I'm a big fan of the last two albums (White Blood Cells was okay), The Raconteurs and Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose so I'm waiting for Jack White to do something I don't like nowadays.

Definitely, their music sounds familiar and simple at first, but eventually the pure charm of it really gets to you.

I still don't have that Loretta Lynn album. I've heard some songs off of it and I did like it though.

I don't know, I guess with the White Stripes, I like them well enough when I hear them, but I always forget about them and never remember to actually play their albums. lol None of it really sticks in my head for very long so I just forget about them.

I have to say I liked Get Behind Me Satan, but I didn't love it. I'm not sure why, I liked the individual songs, it just didn't fully gel in my mind. Maybe that could still happen.

Funny as it seems, I liked how conventional the Raconteurs was. I liked that it had overdubs & bass & good drumming, and the production was slick.

The Raconteurs album grew on me. At first I didn't think any of the tracks were as good as "Steady As She Goes", but after repeated listenings, I like pretty much the whole thing. It was my #19 album of 2006.

It's better that Get Behind me Satan, though for the life of me I just can't digest the bagpipe tracks. I've had that damn effect and cause song in my head for two weeks now but I really love the outpour blues.

All I know is that it's more or less the same seats Rich got us for a show we went to a while ago... I have no other point of reference, but that are crap. I want the general admission. pout lol

could somebody please tell me
the name of the newest song of theirs
that they have the video for
I only saw a clip of it between shows on MTV
it has a bagpipe in the music

is this the track you all are discussing?
I'm not familiar with this group
but I've got to have that song
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."
