I remember a thread on them a few months ago. Who was it that started it?? Anyway, I finally bought the "lexicon of love" cd and man that shit is bangin from start to finish. My fave tracks are, look of love, tears are not enough, valentine's day, poison arrow but the whole thing is great! I neevr knew they were so funky and had so much soul. Martin Fry is the man!

I was heavily into ABC, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sheena Easton, The Motels, Simple Minds, Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Laura Branigan, Human League, etc. back in 1985.

ABC was more influenced by Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music than Bowie (although Bowie was an influence on a lot of late 70s/early 80s bands, including ABC). Ripoff is a bit much... everyone has their influences. Martin Fry's voice was far better than many of ABC's influences. Your loss if you want brand them ripoffs. The Lexicon of Love is one of the best pop albums of the 80s. How To Be A... Zillionaire! was a great album as well.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. ....I was withcha with ABC is bangin'. Lexicon of Love is one of the best albums of the 80's. Great album that had many songs that could have been singles. BUT, u lost me when 1] u said that ABC is BETTER than Bowie. That's crazy as hell. And 2] that Bowie doesn't have enough soul. Perhaps you're really not that familiar with Bowie's catalog. Granted, I don't think ABC sounds that much like Bowie, but there is an influence. Bowie and perhaps even more so, Roxy Music.

Valid Point BG. ABC laid down some serious grooves on the Lexicon of Love album especially with the singles Poison Arrow and Look of Love. And you're right, the lead vocalist did have a Bowie and Ferry influence.

I can dig it. I do think u should get into Bowie's most prolific period, the 70's.

Cant forget about 'Beauty Stab'. They brought out the guitars on this one and it kicked! THe single " That was Then but This is Now' got minor airplay, and Im not sure how well the album did comercially. IMO the real highlights on this album are 'Unzip' and the beautiful soulful ballad 'S.O.S'. Def. worth checking out.
A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

I remember doing this worship when someone discussed "The Lexicon of Love". That's my 2nd favorite album of all time. 25 years ago, can you believe it? omg

It was very unusual for a 15 year old black kid from Harlem in the 90's to love some obscure white guys from Sheffield. But I didn't give a fuck.

I LOVE ABC!!! love
