Something about this album is just not 'doing it' for me. I thought Want One was just an amazing album. Want Two was a bit of a non-cohesive mess but a few songs were really interesting.
This one, though... I enjoy most of the songs when I hear them on their own but as a group it seems very samey-samey....

the concert was AMAZING. 4th time i've seen him and the best by far. he did mainly the new album (which has converted me to a fan of it!), a couple of Judy songs, and some Want songs as well. nice long set.
he was in a great mood, totally present and engaging. great band with a powerful horn section. noituloveryxesevolasildnaydnew

He's been out since his teens That was funny. Hey - I only have Rufus' first album and Poses. Is Want One (and/or Want Two) a necessity for someone who LOVES the two albums I just listed? How does Release the Stars compare with Poses? Thanks!! "She made me glad to be a man"

I just listened to this album. The tunes are pretty good. It has the best ratio of the kind of songs I like from Rufus vs. the kind that I don't like from Rufus than any of his other releases.
I think the only thing I don't like about it is his singing. I'm normally down with it, but I think there's too much nasal, monotone droning this time around. But again, the tunes are good.

Like Tori Amos I get the "one trick pony" vibe from him...as much as i want to like him i just can't get into it.
but im glad you had a good time at the show and get joy from his music... Space for sale...

What do people now think about the new ruthus album?

My first reaction was "Ooh, I love this." Has more of the Poses sound, doesn't seem so hell-bent on rock-God-status like the Wants did.
And though I'm still loving a few tracks--Release the Stars, Between My Legs--there are a definitely a bunch that don't really do much for me. Going to a Town should theoretically be my kind of song, but it just seems kind of obvious and not that interesting.

It's so political and actually kinda sad. Hopefully he doesn't alienate American fans with that one . . .

I like it a lot. I haven't listened to it in about a week, though. I'll have to come back to it later, after I'm through with my current round of Bjork obsession. "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss
