1980s R&B Jam of the Day: Frankie Smith "Double Dutch Bus"

A song inspired by the jump-rope game while employing the nasal, comical voice of Frankie Smith and some Philadelphia-area children using pig Latin in the break, this dancefloor staple spent four weeks atop the Billboard R&B Singles chart in Summer 1981.

An interesting note is that Smith was the nephew of late comedian Pigmeat Markham, of "Heyeah (here) come da judge" fame.

"Give It to Me Baby" was still getting a lot of play at that time, right? "Two Hearts" by Stephanie Mills & Teddy Pendergrass was also out then, I think.

Actually, it was more like the spring. I was still in the eighth grade at the time and there were a few more months left until summer vacation. lol

Great jam though. One of my favorites from that year.
