BETTY DAVIS CD REISSUES ARE HERE!!! i got this message via MYSPACE:
First official Betty Davis reissues!
# Mastered from the original tapes (first time since the ‘70s!) # Previously unreleased bonus tracks # Ice Cube, Talib Kweli, and Ludacris have rhymed over these tracks # Betty recorded some of the finest punk-funk of all time, introduced Miles to Hendrix, and inspired generations # Each CD release includes an elaborate digipak and deluxe 32-page booklet # New notes from Oliver Wang (O-Dub/Soul Sides), including Betty’s second interview in over 25 years! "Tragically, these days Betty Davis is dead broke, living in the Pittsburgh ghetto. For the first time, her critically adored first two albums are being lovingly re-mastered from the original master tapes by Light In The Attic Records to sound as ferocious and revolutionary as they did when they first sprung on an unsuspecting world in the early '70s. These reissues mark the first time that Betty will receive proper royalties for her music on CD." http://brainwashed.com/in...&Itemid=90 http://www.lightintheatti...ettydavis/ Buy these awesome albums and spread the word!

What did she sound like?
Any similarities with a popular artist?

She's dead broke? That's too bad. Still, a strange way to promote music. Anyway, by the rate I'm getting new music at the moment, I'll soon be dead broke, too. First the Sly Stone remasters, now this and all those Miles Davis records I still don't have....

i wanna get the sly stone stuff too, but betty's gonna have to come first. plus, it's only two remasters and they seem to be reasonably priced...PLUS, betty is seeing some of the profits herself, and she seems to really need the money. i'm a little curious as to why she let herself get in the situation she's in, though. all she needs is for one hot young artist to generously sample her, or for one of her songs to be in a tarantino movie or something, and she could be enjoying a cozy retro comeback. i think her music is THAT good and infectuous.

Any similarities with a popular artist? her music was HARD funk, with rock guitar and larry graham playing bass on a lot of the tracks. the pointer sisters and sylvester also did some back-up vocals on her albums. i don't even know what to compare her to. she was wild. out there. over the top.

Betty Davis is the funkiest lady that ever was.
Wonder how her shows must have been during the 70's. Probably completely wild and freaked out Why do they only release 2 albums? She did 3 LP's in the 70's. My fave is "Nasty Gal" /peace Manki

My fave is "Nasty Gal" /peace Manki i just stumbled across betty this year and i've been famming out hard over her ever since. i can NOT imagine having had the chance to see her live. as for the re-issues, i'm guessing they're holding off on the other releases until they see how the first two fare? though it's kind of weird that they're not offering the "this is it" compilation as part of the series...though i guess it's wise, since most of the first two albums are included on that comp, so why buy 'em? have you heard the comeback attempts she recorded after the 70s albums? weren't there a couple more albums in the 80s?

She recorded in the later 70,but the sessions were not released on LP.There was a cd release in the 90's tho that I have including the lost sessions.More discostyle stuff, but after that she just dissapeared from the public eye. Intresting tho when looking at the bonustracks on "They say I'm different". It seems to be early versions of songs that turned up on her "Nasty gal" album. /peace Manki

But Ludacris,though?
I got the first one at dustygroove, and the other two at reputable record stores, and I assumed she was getting royalties from those companies that issued them. I too only discovered Betty last year. I'm surprised that she isn't a funk legend on par with Clinton and Sly, she's that good. I'll be getting these reissues if the bonus tracks aren't remixes with contemporary rappers (the original post is unclear about this)
I'm surprised she's broke, hopefully she will get some kind of career revival after these reissues. I wonder if she's realized that she has gained quite a following, also whether promoters and record company types know of the buzz and are trying to coax her out of retirement for some shows. It would be great for her if she made a comeback, such a shame about her present situation. It happens all too often sadly. If I knew her address I'd send her a few bucks just to say "thanks".
