I have a CD single for Monica's "The First Night" because it has an instrumental which is basically a loop of "Love Hangover". I dig it!

overplayed WHERE? I dig the beginning of this song. damn near every disco show i grew up listening to on the radio would spin "love hangover" every. single. week. that, and "i'm coming out" (but i can stand that in small doses).

"Love Hangover" is my favorite Diana Ross song I love the way it starts off as a steamy ballad, then quicky turns into a relentless disco jam. This song was THE JAM back in the summer of '76!! A dance music classic!

I actually like this song but what alarms me the most about this song is the recording of it. You know it starts as a slow-burning ballad, then it goes into this absolutely funky groove that I can't get out of my head. While all this was happening, to my understanding, Diana and the producer of this song got drunk and felt careless, but in a good way. You can hear it in the song because as it permitts, she tries to imitate Billie Holiday. One of her best songs! Check me out and add me on:

I also heard that, when they were recording this song, the producer made the studio look just like a disco in order to capture the mood.Diana thought it was ridiculous but she was clearly having fun.You can even hear her laughing at one point. She was crackin' up at how crazy things got You can tell that she had a few drinks. If there's a cure for this...I don't wannnntt it

I understand the overplayed factor but I still dig it. It's especially great to hear in longer mixes. I've heard two different 12" mixes of it. One I have on that "diana" deluxe CD set while the other (probably the more popular less rare one) gets a lot of play on Sirius disco channel.

Love Hangover is a throwaway track that became a hit despite (or maybe because?) of its flaws.

I'm with you 100%. I dig the song a lot. I got the diana deluxe CD to and that kicks ass. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I was obsessed with The First Night by monica when it came out and even had the single. I couldn't stop playing the instrumental either, it was so good. A few years ago I bought a diana ross hits compilation, especially cause of several songs like upside down and through that I discovered love hangover and realized this was the song that was sampled and loved it so much! I wish I still had that monica single so i could play the instrumental over and over again but I'd given it away

The 12" version is superb. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Some background info for you bitches...
"Love Hangover" was a very successful and popular single for legendary Motown diva Diana Ross when it was released in 1976. It rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Soul Singles and Hot Dance Club Play charts simultaneously. The song was written by Pamela Sawyer and Marilyn McLeod and had been originally recorded by Sylvester. While Sylvester's version was becoming an underground club smash, the song was given to The Fifth Dimension as a disco number. However, when the Motown staff got a hold on it, they insisted that it would be perfect if Ross recorded it. Ross, like most of her soul contemporaries Aretha Franklin and fellow Motown label mate Marvin Gaye, resented the new musical movement until finally agreeing at the eleventh-hour to record the song. In order to get into the song, she and the producer loosened up in the studio by drinking alcoholic beverages. As the song changed from being a ballad to uptempo, Ross became more comfortable with herself and the material; she hummed, sang bit parts, laughed, danced around and even imitated Billie Holiday. [1] The carefree and sensual nature of Ross' vocals and the music's direction helped to sell the song. When The Fifth Dimension and Ross went toe-to-toe with the song (releasing it at the same time), Ross charted higher. By the time "Love Hangover" went to number one, Ross had reinvented herself as a disco diva and the 5th Dimension's version had peaked at number eighty. It won Ross a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance. [edit] Other versions As well as the Fifth Dimension covering it, the song was also released as a single by the Associates, a British New-wave band. It reached #21 on the UK chart in 1982. The song would become part of the hip-hop lexicon via sampling by everyone from Will Smith to Monica to Janet Jackson.

I thinks it's tacky! All the songs of the "diana" album are far superior

I'm with you 100%. I dig the song a lot. I got the diana deluxe CD to and that kicks ass. I already have the remastered version of Diana, but I've often thought about spending the $20+ on the deluxe version just for that alternate mix of "Love Hangover." I'd love to hear it!
