Dwele, Slum Village - concert mini review

I caught Dwele and Slum Village at Harlow's in Sacramento 03/29/07. The Thursday night show was dissapointing to me on several levels.

Dwele was advertised as the headliner but arrived with no band. The ad in Sacramento News and Review listed the price at $25. I paid $30 at the door. Dwele played keys and sang over a DJ's tracks. He can sing - and he had a good rapport with the large audience in the small club. But what a drag (a double drag even) that he had no band. He sang like three tunes and split. ...He played Find a Way, and Know Your Name - which are two faves.

That left us with Slum Village - a rap duo that seemed to be reaching the true hip hop heads in the spot. I just didn't feel it. ...I admit I didn't even know Slum Village was to perform.

...The most entertaining act of the night was an actual band with rappers that opened the show. I don't know their name though.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.
