Robin Thicke and Prince

In a recent article in Socialite Life Robin Thicke was asked how he feels about the comparisons he gets with JT and Prince. He addresses the JT comparisons by saying they couldn't be further from the truth and how he thinks its only because he's white. However, he never addresses his comparison to Prince...I feel like he has taken some of Prince's advice about music as a young artist and has a passion for his music..Just curious how this forum feels about the comparison....

Oh please.

Sorry, Robin, I like you and all, but your voice sounds like Justin Timberlake's. Or his sounds like yours if you prefer.

Comparisons are always going to happen when someone new comes out that has something different to offer. But i feel like you really have to wait and see what an artist does 5-6 albums into their career to see who they are for real. Prince was compared to Jimi from day one, but he clearly sounds and plays nothing like jimi at all. So Robin may have the Falsetto going but thats where it ends right now as far as them being similar

Best of 2008:
Magne F, Rick Springfield, REM,John Mellencamp.

I've noticed that anyone who comes in the game now and pluck a tune on a guitar or crashes away at some piano keys mindlessly is all of a sudden compared to Prince. sigh Whatever.

Do you remember Tamar's show at Mansion nightclub in Miami, Prince? I re-live it every night, day and waking second. Somewhere here I am on Earth. cloud9

I agree with you about Justin,he's an obvious fake. But Robin Thicke is the real deal.

I think Justin's voice sounds forced and soul-less.His falsetto is weak disbelief

I also think Robin actually has real talent and I am excited to see someone so independently successful. I just hope he stay true to himself and he'll be around a long time...I also think he needs to break from his current label. They have not don a good job of managing him. He should have been platinum by now...

I've only heard "Lost Without U" so far (I may download the album later), but judging from that song alone, Thicke seems like a far superior vocalist to Timberlake. I think his voice is gorgeous.

I wish "Would That Make U Love Me" were the next single. I know Prince comparisons are natural around here, but that song sounds like Marvin wrote and/or produced it. music

Did you see a television special on ABC a few years ago called "The Disco Ball"? Lots of old disco artists got together and put on a televised show. Anyway, this was right after the death of one of The Bee Gees and one of the current groups, either N Sync or Backstreet Boys (I can't remember which one) sang some Bee Gees music and tried to sing in a falsetto. They were so horrible they had me rolling on the floor, kicking my legs, and laughing so hard that tears were flowing from my eyes. lol

I think part of the reason why Robin Thicke is compared to Prince is because of the Robin's song (another cool track that Prince didn't write but, would have been perfect for him) featuring Pharrell, The Neptune produced 'I Wanna Love You Girl'.
