lol I couldn't help but think about that "Hip-hop will die like disco" thread (or whatever it was called). I think the backlash has more to do with the cramming off hip-hop down people's throats.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Really don't know why they need to turn the Swimsuit Issue into the Swimsuit slash Music Issue in the first place. Isn't one special focus enough? How many pages are actually on sports?

There's probably a section on which athletes have a rap CD coming out.

Exactly. No one else here finds that VERY RACIST to even go there with the whole "ghetto issue" thing? Boy, some white people HATE change, don't they? They feel that anything that anything to do with black people then to them that automatically makes it "ghetto" eek . Fuckin' retards.

Interesting. Backlash was bound to happen, it always does, but I still want to know why Beyonce is the only female artist featured in their Music edition...

I thought she wanted to be taken serious and didn't want people to focus on her looks.

I guess since Matthew couldn't get his daughter on Vogue, he had to settle for SI.

I am not mad at her doing the SI spread.

You can be "serious" at whatever you do and still fulfill your other interests that may be a little more on the fun side.

I believe that as long as you have other things going for you, there's nothing wrong with a little skin (while you still look ok, please).

I am a degreed professional, who is taken very seriously, but that is not the whole me...just a part. I get on this website (which isn't particularly cerebral en masse) because it is fun sometimes and it celebrates my one and only favored artist...just a much smaller part of me. Just yesterday someone, who I work with, said she saw me in a magazine that covered a Halloween event I went to...my costume was body paint. She never even mentioned that part b/c it's not that big of a deal. I wanted to do something different, while I have the body.

I said all of that to say: B can be considered a musical professional and still do something sexy from time to time. At the end of the day what matters is what ever helps her brand.

Then that means you don't celebrate:

Veteran's Day
Independence Day
President's Day
Columbus Day

Right? Because all that stuff happened in the past, so let it go.

I ain't surprised. "How dare they put that black girl on the cover and then they go and include articles about even more negroes inside. imma cancel my subscription. "

i guess the angry people cannot read then. the whole issue is about music. i find it hilarious that the people bitching weren't angry about Aerosmith or Kenny Chesney being in the magazine. just the black folk. Too many black people for them to take all at once.

err, okay then,so I guess since i've commented on the subject again, this thread is gonna be locked now.

there's stupidity on both sides though. it was dumb of sports illustrated to slap her on the cover *and* have a music issue the same as the bikini issue...

OK it's my turn.

I have to admit, her body is fantastic. I just don't see how adults could be so attracted to bodies of little girls. Women should have the bodies of women not little girls. So you can keep Nicole Kidman, Paris Hilton, the Olsen Twins, and all of those other stick thin women that so many seem to find so attractive. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

Beyonce....my word is that woman overexposed. Enough already.

Plus, I agree with some of what has been said here already. I don't believe Beyonce would be as "sucessful" as she is if she simply had Kelly Rowland's skin tone or inherited her father's skin tone. I'm not saying she has zero talent but I think the fact she has light skin and a long blonde weave/wig, overall has played a HUGE role in her success, because I don't believe Beyonce could have survived even American Idol. Beyonce' is not only her hair, she is her light skin. She has to appeal to main stream America and we all know for the most part, America likes 'white' and all that that means, or at the very least the closest thing to it.

Sad but true. Society has a beauty standard that tells us that black is unacceptable.I wish it was not so.
sad

::sigh:: I swore I wasn't going to post to this thread but...

1) Beyonce look great in pics
2) It took 5 hours (no joke) to airbrush them for publication
3) That pic of Beyonce that someone posted was before she started losing weight.
4) The sand on the elbow did bother me a bit too when I first saw it falloff
5) That media backlash link is some bs. And then folks wonder why "we don't just get over it." Yeah ok. confused
