i felt a little bad for her. not because i think she deserved it...she didn't. but because she watched everyone else at her table soak in some glory and she couldn't be a part of it. jennifer won a globe, eddie won a globe, jamie fox got to introduce the film, the movie won for its category...and there she was. that's a shame. nobody likes to be left out of the fun and praise.

In all honesty... I don't think Beyonce thought she had a chance up against Meryl
... she was the bomb in Prada.... Im sure she knows she's not taking any awards home for her role in Dreamgirls..

it doesn't help that she's up in the wrong category. she'll never win best actress for that role. it was a supporting role, plain and simple.

sadly, for the same reasons florence ballard was booted from the center, beyonce was chosen to go ahead of the title for sheer marketability.

She better get used to sitting and watching others get awards this time around, because come Oscar time she will be sitting still, honestly i dont think she will be nominated for her acting at the oscars, because she doesnt deserve it. Its a good film and some amazing performances but that doesnt mean the whole cast gets a nod for it. Now im thinking Beyonce is feeling how other Destiny Child members felt all those years when they felt like she was carrying them. And just a quick note, BEYONCE known for her curves and all that, AINT got anything on this woman.

More proof that things get better with age, Salma at 40!!

Yes, it was Flo. Effie's charcter is loosely based on Flo and was supposed to die like Flo did, but Jennifer Holliday didn't like that idea

nod She was supposed to die after the first act. From what I read, Jennifer left the production twice because of the storyline

As I was watching the Globes last night, it occurred to me that sometimes you're just in the wrong year! There are some categories that there's just no way you can win in. Even if Beyonce had been the best thing going, this would not have been the year for her to win with the women in the category with her. Some things just aren't going to happen!
While I'm here---I agree that Beyonce was listed as the star of the movie partly because she was an already established star but her character was the star of the original production and the Effie White character was supporting so there was nothing outrageous about that. Also, it was clear in both the play and the film that Effie was going to take over with "And I'm Telling You..." so I don't think, unlike some people, that there were any surprises there either.

Deena's character was always supporting (or equal). The role was expanded for the film version

I'm sure she's doing fine riding on the glory of the popularity of the movie, award or no award! Such a better role for her then Goldmember.

I didn't LMFAO at Beyonce. confused I don't make light of other people's pain - unless of course it's anything that makes George W. Bush a bigger ass than he is. That being said:

I didn't actually think Beyonce's part in Dreamgirls was worthy of a nomination. Jennifer Hudson? yes. Eddie Murphy? yes. The film? yes. The song, "Listen"? Yes. In my opinion, Beyonce was "just okay" in the film. shrug (However, this film did add to the fact that Beyonce is one of the most beautiful women entertainers today... absolutely, positively beautiful.)

Question:

When was the last time someone applauded at the screen when the film was over? Those of us in "my" audience applauded when the credits were on and they said, "...and introducing, Jennifer Hudson as Effie". There was an eruption of applause at the screen!

I knew right then and there - Jennifer Hudson will win the Golden Globe and the Academy Award. nod

There - I said it.

So it is written... cool

True Beyonce is a great talent and no one can take that away from her, but often when there is a great ensemble of performances everyone thinks that "everyone" is worthy of an award. With acting its really impossible to put people against each other because its all about the material given, everyone is playing different characters, as Sean Penn said when he won there is no such thing as a "best" actor. Denzel won an oscar for "Man on Fire" probably his least worthy nomination.

And to answer the question, i have heard applause before for credits and actors in films, that would be for each of the "indie" films that i have done (5 since 2003), u just have to know to get the right talent and get the right audience.

I didn't say I'd never heard applause after a movie played... I said, when was the last time you've heard it?

Also - if my memory serves me right, Denzel won for Glory (best supporting actor) and Training Day (best actor).

Sorry Training Day, either way a Bad representation of what he can do as an actor, it was more like the "We forgot about Malcolm X" award

I can't believe you guys are correlating this shit w/ "pain" & "feeling sorry for her" lol hammer

She's been stealing the spotlight from everyone in her midst for YEARS now, and God bless her - she's talented & beautiful nod BUT she can't be the center of the universe ALL the time, even she has to learn that someday despite mostly positive reinforcement all her life. Beyonce is set, the girl has it made - no one can take that away from her. If she can't feel genuine joy for those around her & share a little of the kudos she's so used to drowning in, then fuck her - she's got some tough lessons ahead.

I think her pose on the red carpet @ the Globes says a lot... "notice ME!!" lol She'll get over it, she fucking better disbelief I don't think it's necessarily "funny", but it damn sure ain't sad w/ all the shit going on in the world neutral

Greatest Pits: Just how desperate is Beyoncé to win back some of the attention she's lost to "Dreamgirls" costar Jennifer Hudson, who walked off with both the movie and the accolades? The comely chanteuse strikes her best "hey, check out my star power" pose as she styles a precariously plunging, slit-to-there 14-carat calamity of a metallic gown that even Mariah Carey, who's never met a cleavage-baring piece of sequined sausage casing she couldn't fashion into a constricting ensemble, would find too ticky-tacky for her taste. Not only is the déclassé dress all wrong for the occasion, but it's oh-so-unbecoming on the deliciously curvy Beyoncé, who is also undone by a distracting stick-straight faux 'do that's sure to become an instant favorite among her most devoted female impersonators.

clapping I agree with you 100%. I don't know why anyone is feeling sorry for Beyonce for not winning. Technically, she did win, because "Dreamgirls" won for best musical motion picture. Just because she didn't get her own personal Golden Globe trophy doesn't give me any reason at all to feel sorry for her. She's got enough undeserved Grammys on her shelf anyway. I thought that Eddie and Jennifer were the two stand out performers in this film and they deserved to win those awards. If they hadn't kept shoving Beyonce in front the entire movie, I wouldn't have even noticed her. Out of the three girls, I found her performace to be the least impressive. Her performance didn't even deserve recognition, let alone an actual award IMO. She was mediocre and that's me being nice. Plus, what's up with that picture? Didn't anyone tell her that she looked like a drag queen? I'm surprised she looks soo cheap, because as much as I don't like Beyonce, I have no problem admitting that the girl has rocked some fabulous outfits in the past, but this sure as hell ain't one of them. I agree with whoever posted the Selma Hayek pics. Selma's body is just as beautiful as Beyonce's, but unlike Beyonce, she's not in her 20s.

I don't understand where all of this dislike for Beyonce is coming from. While she does sometimes act like a "Diva",(this can be surely attributed to her age), she is more talented than most of todays "R&B" stars, that are out there. She can sing and dance at the same time, which again is something that I have not seen most veterans do lately. She writes pretty good material, "Irreplacable", has a pretty good groove,(yes, that "to the left", can be a bit annoying, but at least it sticks in your brain, which is what the writer of ANY song, would want their song to do, "stick" in your brain). Her band is one of the tightest bands, that I have heard in a while. Also, while she did not personally win an award for "Dreamgirls", she was gracious enough when it came to the loss. There is no reason for us to laugh at her. She did what she has set out to do, and that is to be one of the stars in a major motion picture. Nuff Said.
