THE OFFICIAL I HATE HIP HOP THREAD RANT HERE

This is the official I Hate Hip Hop today thread, if you think Hip Hop started the war in the east and is to blame for all of the worlds problems rant here. This is an attempt to prevent other threads that have nothing to do with Hip Hop from running off topic and turning into long winded debates about how hip Hop sucks etc…

Man, every genre is dead at one point or another. It's sad that The Roots song and video for "what they do" is still relevant. BTW, how relevant was Paul Revere to Gangsta rap? Didn't it pre-clude a lot of NWA?

i agree, paul's boutique is a really good album. very innovative.

what i hate about hip hop in general is that any integrity it may have had at the beginning, or at some point, has pretty much disinegrated.

One of the things that I don't like is the influence gangster rap has had on modern R&B and love songs. We once had classic love songs with lines like..

"If God one day struck me blind
Your Beauty I'll still see"

What happened to such romantic lyrics? Now love songs are like..

"I need a down ass bitch like youuuuu giiirl! "
I thought the police was checkin' me but they was just scoping you girl!"

wtf?

This must be how the church felt when gospel music was spliced with the everyday subject matter of the blues. Sometimes I feel outraged, other times I'm like hey, maybe this is what everyday folks want to hear and this is everyday talk. Me being a Libra I try to see both sides, but I miss love songs that actually talk about love you know.

its not that hip hop is dead-- its still very much alive and kicking. its just that what it has morphed into is a big pile of shit.

It would be nice to throw shit hop into one little room and close the door. However, since it seems to dominate 99% of R&B these days, that would be impossible.

I don't understand why people get tired of hearing people bitch about shit hop. They can't be nearly as tired of hearing us bitch than we are of the shit dominating everything. I would gladly trade places with them and have funk, disco, rock, or hell, even polka of all things dominate and listen to them bitch because there's no shit hop.

And i would 99.9% of Rap video directors and makers. I mean can someone get original? Lets see, lets get some cars, some rims, piles of cash, bottles of liqour, a bunch a girls who cant get real jobs but look good and degrade them because there too stupid to realize they are being used (for the record 90% of video girls dont get paid). This is basically every rap video from 50 cent to Fat Joe to Lloyd Banks to lil John to Young Jeezy and anyone else who is the falvor of the month. And yes this disease has bled into RB or what used to be RB, if Sam Cooke or Donny Hathaway came out today, the label would want them with chains hanging shirts open and big booty women on them. Does anyone have a cure for this disease, (by the way, its the first time this has happend, this how Metal came and went in the 80's).

I hear ya!! It saddens me to see what has happened to R&B music. Many of today's R&B artists are convinced that hip-hop is the way to go,so they incorporate the same tasteless elements into their own music.Angie Stone is a terrific singer but she can't seem to make a record without excessive samples on every track (just like the rappers)...Jaheim is an incredible singer but with his thugged-out lyrics and persona,he seems like he would rather be a rapper...This trend started in the late 80s when New Jack Swing came around. That's when R&B singers decided to mix hip-hop elements into their music. These days,R&B is simply following hip-hop.Mariah Carey seems afraid to make an album without a bunch of rappers all over it,pissing on her tracks.

This is my biggest gripe as well. The influence that rap or hip hop culture has had on R&B music. The lyrics in R&B music are so poor. The constant references to material items, name brand dropping, slang terminology. Limited subject matter: sexing, cheating, stealing somebody’s guy/gal, I can do it better than he/she can, can’t nobody do it like me, sexing, cheating, etc.

Then wonder why they mistake certain singers for rappers when their image and style of dress is practically identical (can they please do away with that damn skull cap thing?) and have a collabo with a rapper on the track anyway.

These songs will never be classics in my book.

If I wanted to hear hip hop then I’d listen to it. I don’t want to hear it infused into other genres. I also hate when older singers who’ve been around for awhile start incorporating the language into their music. Major cool points lost when an artist does that.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

1. crunk culture (especially Lil'Jon)
2. 50Cent, his boyfriend Lloyd Banks & the G-Unit

** WORD.

3. RIAA

** not sure what that is...

4. All jungle bunnies (Lil'Kim, Khia, Jaci-O, Trina, etc.)

** okay, by "jungle bunnies", is that a term that THEY used to describe themselves or is that a term YOU are using to describe them because i don't know if i should be feeling offended right now or not.

5 Dr.Dre for standing by 50Cent by abandoning The Game.

** $.50 sucks. this much i know. i used to like dre back in his NWA days.

6. Suge Knight

** goes w/out saying he sucks.

7. Flavor Flav for dating Brigette Nilsen.

** whatever...

8. The Fugees for not being able to solve their personal differences.

** i have to admit that they are pretty disappointing.

9. Jay-Z for not staying "retired".

** heheheh! confused

10. Snoop Dogg for failing drug rehab.

** i don't take that guy seriously so i can't be disappointed when he fucks up.

11. The Neptune for ruining Gwen Stefani's career

** how'd they do that?

12. will.i.am for making Fergie look like an complete idiot

** err.... she can look like an idiot on her own. ever see kids incorporated?

13. All rapper from Houston, Texas that sounds the same (except for The Geto Boyz)

** this i can't really comment on but i am tired of "the dirty south".

Another issue I was wondering about, I'm not saying this is going on with the org at all let me make that clear. I was thinking maybe complaining about Hip Hop is a slick way to complain about black people for some. That is not to say that Hip Hop reflects the actions of the black community as a whole. But there are those that probably feel that is does, so they replace Hip Hop with the word black or nigger and say things like "rappers are lazy" - because they sample.

I'm sure there are a lot of people simply tired of rap, but rap has a face attached to it and it is still a black art form. Hip Hop may become the new N word.

There are a LOT of BLACK PEOPLE who are PISSED OFF at the way mainstream hip-hop stereotypes and homogenizes the black experience. And in fact reinforces racist notions of black culture.

A lot of things people are complaining - from the videos, to the misogyny, to the violence, to the drugs, to the gun/brand/bling porn, to the videos have all been staples of hip-hop for the last ten to twenty years. It's nothing new.

That said, I refuse to listen to contemporary hip hop because most of today's rappers have got absolutely fuck all to say that hasn't been said before, by their more talented forbears. So I hate today's hip-hop because it's as boring and predictable as farts following beans, but only because I used to love the genre.
