so.....I'm JUST getting into SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE

I have been wanting to get into them for a long time since i know how influential they are to MJ and PRINCE....
It first started a couple of years ago, my mom played IF YOU WANT ME TO STAY and i have been hooked on that song ever since [anyone know if he sped up his voice? or just adjusted his voice naturally?}

anyway...

i came across a couple of best ofs {anthology and ESSENTIALS} THERE'S A RIOT GOIN ON and FRESH! and there are a couple of songs that are sticking out to me already. i really like their song and i can swear i can hear many things prince lifted from them {the rhythm guitar from YOU CAN MAKE IT IF YOU TRY for Alphabet st. for one, and RUNNIN' AWAY for BILLY JACK BITCH}

I really dig them... I really like CYNTHIA too! i dont know who she is or her story but i really liked her voice and how she talked,lol

Can anybody hip me to any info you know of them or whatever?

i remember a few threads but i wasnt paying attention then

Since you are already hip to There's a Riot Going On & Fresh

I normally try to stay away from Best of's & Greatest Hits, but this one delivers with non-LP singles "Hot Fun in the Summertime," "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" and "Everybody Is a Star"

There's A Riot Goin' On is their best album. In fact, it's one of the greatest albums of all time. Funkgasmic music
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

The whole of 'Riot', and three quarters of 'Fresh' are about as good as anything gets in music. Their funk was the best kind of funk. I've been getting into loads of different styles of funk - listening to 'em relentlessly - and, no matter how much I like the others out there, nobody's touching Sly, especially on the two albums mentioned. 'Stand' is great, too, but a different sound from 'Riot' and 'Fresh' - it's far more upbeat, uplifting and 'lighter'.

'If You Want Me To Stay' might just be the coolest, and maybe even best, song ever made. I'm serious.

A travesty that their other earlier albums aren't more readily available.

Not in England they ain't. You can't get of their albums other than 'Fresh' and 'There's A Riot Goin' On'.
