Tori's a MUCH better singer!

I like Regina. Sure, she's doing things similar to Tori, but that doesn't mean she isn't worth checking out. Her track "Us" from the "Soviet Kitsch" album is fantastic, one of my favorites of the past few years.

April 11th: REGINA SPEKTOR at Warsaw - Warsaw is an interesting venue in that it's like a grade school auditorium. Regina Spektor always is very humble live and a little flaky not unlike Nellie Mckay. Also like Nellie, her show was just her and her piano. The highlight was when an intoxicated fan yelled out "I love your breasts!" and after the gasps/laughter died down, Regina calmly replied, "but you don't know them." ha ha. She opened with the a cappella "Ain't No Cover" followed by a long set list that included, "Ode To Divorce", "Poor Little Rich Boy", "Us", "Carbon Monoxide", "The Flowers", "Ghost Of Corporate Future", and many, many others. 95 minutes.

Sept 27th: REGINA SPEKTOR at Town Hall - Regina is moving up in the world. I believe this is the first NYC venue at which she has performed that has assigned seating. She acknowledged her rise in stature herself after a minor faux pas while sitting at the piano. The first two thirds of the show was typical Regina opening with the a cappella "Ain't No Cover" and then performing solo on the piano and a brief appearance on guitar. Then came the difference from the last few tours when Regina brought out a band (drums, bass and guitar) to accompany her for the rest of the evening. Regina purists may be fearful of the idea, but I thought the band sounded great with her. Her vocals and the times when she played the piano were still prominent in the mix and not drowned out at all. The concert overall was a good step forward for her. One funny moment: Regina, gracious as always, asked if any policemen were in attendance before politely requesting that marijuana not be smoked during her performance which its scent by that time had wafted throughout the entire theater. Complete setlist: "Ain't No Cover", "Prisoners", "The Flowers", "Small Town Moon", "Baby Jesus", "Ode to Divorce", "Pound of Flesh", "Poor Little Rich Boy", "Human of the Year", "Musicbox", "The Wallet", "Baobabs", "Bobbing for Apples", "That Time", "On the Radio*", "Sailor Song*", "Apres Moi*", "Better*", "Edit*", "Carbon Monoxide*", "Fidelity*", "Your Honor*", (encore) "Ghost of Corporate Future", "Us", "Samson", "Hotel Song *" (*with band). 95 minutes.
