NEW YORK - Rapper Fabolous was shot early Tuesday as he stood at a Manhattan parking garage, spurring a sequence of events that left him both hospitalized in stable condition and under arrest, police said.

The 28-year-old rapper, whose legal name is John Jackson, was shot once in the thigh when a male with a gun approached him and three others and opened fire, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wysokowski said.

The four jumped into a vehicle and fled, attracting the attention of police when they ran a red light. Officers stopped them and discovered two loaded guns in the vehicle, both of which were apparently unlicensed, Wysokowski said. All four men were arrested, and charges were pending.

The rapper was taken to a hospital. Police were searching for the shooter.

Police did not identify the three men arrested with the rapper, saying only that they are 18, 23 and 29 years old.

The Brooklyn native's hits have included, "Breathe" and "Can't Deny It," and his songs cover topics ranging from romance to street life and violence. He recently took part in the taping of the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, which were to air Tuesday evening.

An e-mail seeking comment from a representative at Def Jam Recordings was not immediately returned early Tuesday. The label is producing the rapper's upcoming solo album, due out in December, according to Fabolous' Web page on MySpace.com.

I have no idea what this rapper is involved in or not involved in, but nonetheless, I'm going to vent because this shit sickens me! When I hear of shootings such as this it makes me very angry and full of hate.

Just last week, there was a shooting at my local shopping mall at 5:30 in the afternoon just outside the Sears parking lot. Many people were around and could've been caught in the crossfire. Both men were shot and both are connected to local gangs. These people have no regard for anything, not even their own lives. They think nothing of putting innocent lives in danger. All they think about is their own prestige within their gang and how much money they can make off drugs and guns. I'd like to see everyone of these assholes in jail and off our streets. I know that's harsh, but it's how many people feel.If they have no regard for human life, they should not have the privilege of a life.

Say what you will about my comments or how society is to blame etc., I know I'm not alone in my thoughts. These types of incidents just bring more hate and more sterotyping. Will this shit ever end?

I feel you. There was a shooting outside of my work last Friday, after a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME! I dont' know if the shooters were students, but cops had a good portion of the street blocked off as several shots were fired. It's too bad these "thugs" don't realize that even Pac knew that there wasn't a good end to living that kind of lifestyle.

This has got to stop. I'm sick and tired of reading about people getting killed over $50.00. Or because they looked at someone the wrong way, Or they were wearing Blue or Red. Ive gotten so that I can't bear to watch the evening news anymore. It's depressing.

Now this is where i have been saying that labels need to step it up with their involvement in what their artists do with their time. Now i dont know what the issue was with this shooting, but its all becoming boring at this point, whether it be Fabulous,Proof,Obie Trice,Cassidy,Busta Rhymes etc.. there are all these issues and never is a crime solved, why? well i think Busta said it best when the police tried to investigate his situation, he said "we take care of our own situations". Now we all know that this incident is somehow a gang related incident, and Busta Ryhymes incident was 100% a gang incident, and Police will not get involved with that, just like they did get in the middle of Mafia hits back in the "mafia" days. But i say you cut one of the sources off, Labels and the money that they give away. Labels dont look into anyones background, in fact the more trouble you had the better for your image, they sign artists, give em cash then the artists bring in alot of their friends to work with them, alot of which have done Jail time, have gang ties, and this once again comes a brewing situation. Watching the VH1 special "Dont Stop", i saw 2pacs fight that he had in Vegas, bascially this got him killed, like ICEt said, "he had no business, gang banging with these guys" but if you surround yourself like this, you can never escape it. And im tired of people talking "Street Cred" and shit like that, and "being down" no matter how much you got, im tired of that and its total Bullshit.

I'm right there with y'all. A few weeks ago, a 3 year old girl was killed because these fools thought her dad was a gangbanger. He wasn't. The sad truth of it is this idiot shot the girl point blank. At first I thought she just got caught in the crossfire, but I later learned she was deliberately shot. If these fools don't care about their own lives and want to shoot each other just ship them all off to Iraq and they can blow each other to smitherines. Now I have these little white kids down where I am wearing baggy pants and talking like they walked out of South Central. My friend's son is one of these and he acts like he's so big and bad growing up in the friggin' suburbs. Listens to rap music and been in and out of juvie. I told her I was gonna kidnap him and drop him off in Compton since he obviously wants to play gangsta so bad.
