Well im not going to hate on Janet because i like her, but im so sick of this whole PROMO thing with artists. There is so much hype around records now and then they come out and NOTHING, so much money down the drain on promotion, what a waste. Everything is so predictable, I know for a fact that Justin Timberlake is getting the Rolling Stone cover right before his cd comes out, Janet gets VIBE, Beyonce is on everything right now, especially european magazines. I know this is the way to hype up your shit, because its all about the week one numbers, but its such overkill, its amazing that this generation of artists just dont get it. NOw with Janet its a little different because she is "madonna" like and usually will depend on something shocking to get you out to the stores to buy a record. I just think that with the more PROMO outlets that artists get, how much the actual "MUSIC" takes a backseat. Now its all about your video, your relationships, your jail sentence, your magazine spread etc.... Well i just think Madonna is the queen at it though. Just yesterday i heard Justin Timberlake referred to as the "King of pop", look im not a big MJ fan but dont you have to put in some time before you get this "king" status. As for Janet i dont think her album will be "nothin" but i think we as fans of artists that have been at it for a long time, we try to recapture "old feelings" of how we felt when we heard such and such, but we forget that we're older and so are they. But i dont wish any of these artists "ill" but if you are going to measure success on soundscan, you pretty much are going to be disappointed, to me if i can listen to the cd straight through constantly thats a success. this record better be damn good because i'm about to be over her. if this is all she's got to show for herself at 40 years old...well, its just a shame. i mean, is this all she thinks of herself? is this all she has to offer?

My thoughts exactly. She covered up for the velvet rope, her last good album, and in the 10 years since then its just been the same old trick.....titilation and below par music. Maybe the new album will be good, but this isnt the right way to going about prommoting it. I guess this is just the easiest way for her to get a few magazine covers though.

That, as in all of her albums, will depend on it's producers, and not her supposed talent.

Some of you need serious help. If you can't afford the time of a caring professional or weren't gifted possession of the introversional innerspace to navelgaze and metamorphasise your entire being, I'd recommend you kill yourselves and rid the planet of your genetics. She looks appalling, a wreck, a broken, torn metaphor for the narcassistic moronity of the species. Janet Jackson's face is a direct reflection of all that's wrong with the human race, the spastic vanity which personifies the true ugliness anchored in every single one of us. We're all spiked and leaking. I suppose you can only see what you can see and perception isn;t truth, it's a viewpoint. But I'm right, you know. So keep applauding this broken, pitiful thing, continually thrown into quarter circles by the braying, maddened, consumerist hordes, but personally I'd drown that poor creature and put it out of its obvious aching misery. Thank you. [Edited 8/3/06 3:27am]

I'm never serious, ugh. Especailly not on a prince website. Still, I do believe that we all whore ourselves to both known and unknown forces in our lives every minute of every day. And Janet does that same, I suppose, only to a differing degree of, well. You only have to look at her bikini bottoms in that picture to imagine the scenario on the day of the 'shoot'. (Love that terminology - Crazy Horse would smile wisely) ARSEHOLE PHOROGRAPHER - Miss Jackson, uh, could you silde those bikini bottoms over to one side as if you're allowing Satan to insert his and shoot his into your busted vagina? JANET JACKSON - Sure! I love that concept! It's a wonderful metaphor which sums up my entire career! That's how it fucking happened, man. Look at those bikini bottoms and tell me different. Well,b she didn't exactly cover up for the "Janet" album, in fact that is one of the most provocative album covers ever, but I think that was her best album, ever.. So, I don't think provocation and hype means garbage music. Having said that when you think of MJ album covers with OTW and THRILLER, I mean they were the least, provocative, understated album covers ever, yet the music from both these albums were classic gems:-D So,I guess it can work best way.
