My roommate freshman year in college was a huge metalhead and big Yngwie J Malmsteen fan. I walked into the dorm with my Prince albums and looked through his cassettes and it was all stuff like Yngwie J Malmsteen, Y&T, Def Leppard, etc. We were total opposites. lol

Ironically, he's the one guy from college in which I still stay in contact. After playing 'Pyromania' for the 1,000th time, he got me to like Def Leppard. Go figure.

Yeah, I'm gonna definitely email that to him. Although I don't think he's too proud of liking those bands now. lol

And my bad, it was 'Hysteria' that he played to death. That was the Def Leppard album that was released during freshman year in 1987. Throughout that year when he played it nearly every goddamn day, my reactions went through this evolution:
rolleyes mad evil wall headache and then he finally broke me headbang

The dude can play, no argument there.

But i'll never forgive the raping he gave Voodoo Child (Slight Return). disbelief
Where does he get these singers? Hire Ronnie James Dio for goodness sakes.

Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Martin, Graham Bonnet, Mark Boals, Glenn Hughes.... all interchangable vocalists of the time

Though I like the late 80's Black Sabbath albums with Hughes and Tony Martin. Yngwie should have stuck with instrumental albums only. I have no doubt he coulda produced a metal version of something like Surfing With The Alien. Yngwie is completely devoid of any funk though.

Agreed. The things he did with full orchestras were very good.

Rainbow - that was another band my friend was really into. I gotta give my friend credit, the only reason I know all these bands' names is because of him.

You guys are making me think I shoulda listened to his Yngwie cassettes when I had the chance. hmmm

Oh man! falloff That was too funny.

Poor Yngwie... I think the media has just "typecast" him as this arrogant jerk, and will never let it go...

Personally, I think he's earned the right to be arrogant. He may not be god... but he's really one of the best players ever... he's influenced so many... bow
