You're kidding me aren't you? Doug's got some hellafied pipes.

I'll take it for granted you've checked out King's X, but have you copped any of Doug's solo discs? It doesn't sound like you're doubting the veracity of the post, but whether you know much about Doug's vocal ability. Do some research.

Problems in Living Colour? confused
Seems strange that they would do the gigs at all.

Recent Vernon Quote 8/6/2006:
Living Colour isn't quite dead -- Reid terms it "a project in deep flux right now"

hmmmmm.

My guess is the European dates, below, were booked before the JCS role was confirmed. Assuming "a total immersion" for rehearsal and other prepatory work would preclude participating in the tour.

Looking at those JCS tourdates, Cory could be outta LC for a LONG TIME. confused Depending on the length of his JSC contract, of course.

From 1998

From 2005:

Yes I have heard Doug's vocals and I am quite aware of King's X music. I like many other black rockers was interested in King's X because they were a rock band with black members. But I soon lost interest in King'sX because I counldn't hear in their music any "blackness", "soul", "funk", just like Hooty and the Blowfish, I put them aside. I would rather listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers any day than King's X. I mean that's my taste. If Doug can pull it off I'll be the first to give him his props, but there's a reason why Corey got the JCS gig and not Doug. Corey has a very unique and powerful voice, along with his acting skills(Platoon). Corey is doing what is best for Corey not for LC fans. You go boy, go make that cheese!!!

I've seen Living Colour live three times on three separate tours in the last four years, the most recent show being last December. Their lineup is from the 'Stained' album.

Sorry but this is a WIN-WIN situation. Corey and Doug are 2 of my favorite rock singers and I think it's gonna sound mindblowing. I can't wait to get a bootleg of a show. A lot of Queen fans hate the fact that Paul Rodgers is singing for them, but the guy can sing (plus he was Freddie's favorite rock singer.) I think the Doug/LC shows are going to be amazing.

Co-sign from "the choir".

I'd never heard King's X until recently.
Just couldn't believe that a 3-pc group could play and sing the harmonies they do without "assistance". Well they can!

As far as Rock singers go, if I was putting a Hard Rock group together and had to choose a singer, Doug would be the 1st on my list.
He hit a classic high pitched Rock scream at one point during the show and then did something with his voice (sounded like a harmonic) that took it up another octave.

And in terms of him being obligated to inject Funk or Soul into King's X, that's not his job.
His job is to be the best ROCK singer and bassist he can in one of the best ROCK groups on the planet.

This collaboration sounds like something that shouldn't be missed.

All Dug needs to do is quit smoking. That's about it.

Whoever said he can't handle L.C. duties is smoking more than Dug.
Vernon knows who to pick for the vox. Dug,just stop smoking or you won't make it through the week.

I wouldn't be surprised if people become Pinnick fans while watching him as long as he isn't smoking ciggs or weed . lol

Interesting but definitely cool as far as DUg and LC jamming togther.
I was wondering what was up LC since Collideoscope.
I've heard negative comments lately considering the state of these two bands and this really doesn't help. Oh well, they gotta do what they gotta do. I just hope and pray neither bands are on the "outs" and will, in the future, continue to release new product and/or tour. These are 2 of my favorite bands!

I too agree Doug can sing rock that was never in question. But can he sing soulful, maybe, but he has never sung anything in King's X that I would consider "soulful", that was Corey's forte. A lead singer can and should contribute toward a song being "soulful", "funky", just as much as the musicians. Corey's voice added funk and soul to LC's sound and I for one would not like to see LC become a rock band with no soul, just a 'all black band' with no blackness. All black on the outside but all white on the inside. Nawl that ain't my cup of tea.

Wow.
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree.
I for one think doug is a very soulful singer but in a "rock" vein. But he is still very soulful no matter what he sings.

Living Colour always made it clear that they were a rock band first, and were also sometimes pissed off when Soul/R&B magazines and newsletters would come to review their shows just because the members themselves were black. Of course, towards the last albums more and more soul influences started creeping in through the backdoor but that's another story.

Which just reminds me, the new Vernon Reid album just finished downloading on my own computer. Gotta listen to it now. wink

There's been a tremendous amount of solo activity, but the band has held it together with occasional tours of US, Europe, Brazil and Australia. Here's a quickie breakdown.

Guitarist, leader & co-founder Vernon Reid
Yohimbe Brothers (electronica collab with DJ Logic). 2 releases: FRONT END LIFTER (2002) and THE TAO OF YO (2004) with US tour in 2002. A third release (and tour) is scheduled for 2007.

Masque (fusion band). 2 releases: KNOWN UNKNOWN
(2004),OTHER TRUE SELF (2006) with brief regional tours in 2004 and 2006. Actually, this is an extension of Reid’s solo recording MISTAKEN IDENTITY (1998) and is an ongoing concern.

Drummer & co-founder Will Calhoun
Supported Mos Def on his BLACK JACK JOHNSON tour and album. Recorded CD/DVD NATIVE LANDS (2005) which featured solo, percussion ensemble and jazz and fusion bands. There are unreleased recordings with bassist Doug Wimbish and keyboardist Bernie Worrell the soundtrack/premiere of Worrell’s docu-bio STRANGER and a session with Meters’ guitarist Leo Nocentelli.

Vocalist & co-founder Corey Glover
A featured role in movie, AMERICAN REUNION (2005), got married and had a son and is now featured in the touring company of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

Bassist Doug Wimbish
In 2002, supported Mos Def on his BLACK JACK JOHNSON tour and album recorded in 2004. Also toured US in 2004 with Tackhead
in support of Little Axe’s CHAMPAGNE & GRITS. Other work includes tours with Headfake (collab with LC drummer Will Calhoun), Mark Stewart & The Mafia, Czech gypsy funk band Gulo Car, and Brazilian singer Fernando Porta. A new Tackhead recording (and tour) is due this year.

FWIW: I strongly recommend all releases cited above. I'd rate 'em 3 stars or better (have not seen the Glover movie though).

Ok,I need some help after reading this thread.Where can a copy of Black Jack Johnson be attained??I remember wanting this so badly and it never came. Also, where should I start with King's X? I remember one song of theirs yeras ago that I liked, but I don't remember the title. It was around the time I heard Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" and I fell in love with that song!!It overshadowed everything at that time.

As far as Black Jack Johnson, I believe Mos Def's album The New Danger, is as far as your going to get. The band is on alot of the tracks in some form or another.
King's X, I would suggest Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, Dogman, Ear Candy, Faith Hope Love and King's X (self-titled). You can't go wrong with any of those. But I would start with Gretchen. KX's fans consider it their masterpiece, as do I.
I'm not sure what song you are referring to as I don't know when Symphony of Destruction came out. What year was it?

For my money, TAPEHEAD, DOGMAN and MANIC MOONLIGHT are a bit more on the funky side. Their latest OGRE TONES is simply superb by any standards.
