How does Mariah and Diddy get a Star on the Walk of Fame before Prince ? Sean "Diddy" Combs, rock disc jockey Rodney Bingenheimer and Barbara Walters have something in common: They will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Recipients for 2007 were announced Friday by Walk of Fame committee chairman Johnny Grant. "It's a privilege to honor these performers," he said. The committee said it had reviewed more than 200 nominations to select next year's 23 honorees. The list of recipients, as ratified by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce board of directors, also includes Michael Caine, Matt Damon, Lauren Shuler Donner, Jamie Foxx, John Goodman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Altman, Erik Estrada, Kiefer Sutherland, Jerry Stiller, Dick Wolf, Mariah Carey, The Doors, Crystal Gayle, Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, Tim Rice, Lily Tomlin and Stu Nahan.

don't you have to pay for that yourself to get a star?
you think prince will pay someone for hollywood to acknowledge his "star" on the walk of fame?? shucks, the man told us he was star back in '84...sure as hell don't need nobody else to tell him that.... [Edited 6/24/06 20:07pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

[Edited 6/24/06 20:07pm] Yes but I don't think most people actually pay for their own (in fact, if they did, I'm almost certain it would be a scandal). No, somebody has to nominate them. Sometimes it's a fan (or fan club) that will nominate and take care of the bill but you'll notice sometimes that when an artist has a project out...guess what...the studio will pay for it!

The fan club usually has to nominate and pay for the Star. It's not that prestigious of an accomplishment, really. Lassie has one, for God's sakes. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

How do you get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Here's what I've learned from Wikipedia:
"The Walk of Fame is maintained by the self-financing Hollywood Historic Trust. In order for a person to get a star on the Walk of Fame, he or she must agree to attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection, and a $15,000 fee must be paid to the Trust for costs such as security at the star ceremony; a 2003 FOX News story noted that the fee is typically paid by sponsors such as movie studios and record companies, as part of the publicity for a release with which the honoree is involved. On other occasions, the fee is paid by a fan club or the nominating person or organization." BTW, I'm glad that Mariah Carey is finally getting her star on the Walk of Fame. How Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Ryan Seacrest managed to get stars before she did, I don't know. As for Prince, maybe he's been nominated for a star several times already, but because he won't show up for the ceremony, they won't give him a star.
