I see you're one of those people that "bought into" the whole "I hate the term neo soul." Most people have no idea what it really means, all they know is that artists dont like it so they follow suit and not like it either.

Well, some artists believed it was a marketing term created by record companies (Imagine that) to peddle a mature R&B to a younger generation but the term was originally called "neo classic soul" coined by Kedar Massenberg, the man behind discovering D'Angelo, Badu, and re-starting Chico Debarge's career. The term simply means "The NEW school artists holding down the tradition of SOUL music by the old school Soul Singers."

Somehow it became a "bad name" and some artists believed it put them in a box (Imagine that, too) and it hindered them as far as sales and radio play, which wasn't the case, radio has been in love with Hip Hop for the last 6 years, so it could have been called "Neo Hip Hop" and they STILL wouldn't have gotten any air play.

neo soul creates a more obscure sub-genre for an already dying music wave...
Neo Classic Soul is a ... Oxymoron and makes even less sense...

Neo Soul is just soul in pretty colored wrapping for the new commers...

Its really an insult to Soul

Then again all Genre seperatism is stupid, Tends to make people not indulge into different sounds...
Genre's are like skin color
and now everybody is segregated...

Every music genre is labled which makes it stupid for people to complain about the term "Neo Soul."

Not possible. Record companies would never allow that.

Speaking for myself....

Neo-Soul became a bad name because 98% of the songs from THAT genre has a average tempo that is too damn slow for me. And I'm not talking love songs neither.
