Gnarls Barkley - part 3(?)

Since I can't seem to reply to that old thread (something weird going on), I'll just start a new one, cuz this CD is good enough for a few. I finally got a copy. Outkast has their work cut out for them with Idlewild. SO. DAMN. GOOD.

Not sure why we cannot still add too this thread -->

http://www.prince.org/msg...1412?&pg=1

But anyway.....

Some fun facts to tango with as you roll through your week...

The Last Time

An America artist held the number one spot for seven consecutive weeks, Cher (sans Sonny) was asking us if we believed in life after love and Bill Clinton was cleaning out his desk. That was 1998.

A debut single was number one for seven consecutive weeks, teenagers girls (and middle-aged men) the world over were going mad for Girl Power and the Spice Girls Wannabe in 1996. A year before, actors-turned pop stars Robson and Jerome dazzling the world with their rousing cover of the Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody.

The First Time

A song topped the singles charts on downloads alone was when Gnarls Barkley hit number one on April 2nd 2006. Crazy sold an astounding 31,713 digital copies in one week and topped Morrisseys comeback single You Have Killed Mebefore selling an addition 194,179 copies the following week.

Upon its release on April 24th, St. Elsewhere was the highest selling number one album on the digital charts since their creation in September of 2004.

An artist had a number one single without ever performing live was when Gnarls topped the charts on April 2nd, 2006.

An artist performed on Top Of The Pops without having a full-length album out was when Gnarls performed a dirged-out, soul-stirring Crazy replete with a full horn section and Sir Danger Mouse on organ on April 16th, 2006.

Thanks to everyone for being a part of the action thus far! - GBIT

Between this and Heineken using "Don't Cha" for their new Heineken Light commercials, Cee Lo is rolling in the dough.

Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ is set to notch up a chart record this weekend, as the longest single at number one this side of the in twelve years.

Cee-Lo Green and Danger Mouse’s smash track will be the longest runner at the top spot since Wet Wet Wet’s ‘Love Is All Around’ in 1994.

‘Crazy’ shifted around 10,000 units on Monday alone, putting it well ahead of LL Cool J and Jennifer Lopez’ collaboration ‘Control Myself.’

If Gnarls Barkley hold on for another week, they’ll be in the same territory as Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s ‘Two Tribes.’

I love track 14, but I am also a Gnarls junkie.

I can hear "Last Time" being all over the radio.

A lot of people are feeling this way. Relief at hearing a real song with real personality and soul doing well on the charts.

Here is a present for my fellow heads! lol

http://www.yousendit.com/...FB2E128E69

In the above link, you can get the promo leaks of Cee lo's other colab with Jack Splash of Plantlife. They were going to be called Lovestink, but the Right Now track list the name as The Heart Attack.

The songs are GangstaBoogie and Right Now.

Both are very nice. Different from Gnarls, but they both still showcase Cee Lo.

The breakdown on GangstaBoogie is hot and Right Now is straight out of the 70's. If Lo was singing in a falsetto, I would swear it was a P record.

Later and Enjoy!

Anybody in the UK catch them on 'Later.. With Jools Holland' last night?

Performed three songs including 'Crazy'. Great live too. The real deal.

What does Danger Mouse do though? As far as I know, he's a beatmaker.

Cool. I thought DM programmed stuff and Daniele Luppi added the color in playing, like Kanye and Jon Brion.

That's a query I have as well. I saw them on Jools Holland last night. They did 3 songs. The first one was nothing special, the other two were great. This is a great band. DM was playing keys but only little 3 note monophonic riffs as far as I could tell. Not that it matters; he's obviously a very creative dude.

I was just curious if he was gonna pretend to "DJ" or something, seeing as his contribution is sort of canned.

(No hate, I make beats and have actually been puzzled as to how to present myself on stage).

I just watched the Jools Holland performance and it was hot! Opened with Gone Daddy Gone, next was Crazy and it was slowed down for an almost erie version. Closed with Smiley Faces which was very nice.

They are going to be a great act to catch live if you have the opportunity.

Looks like the movie theme for this performance was Zoro. Prior ones have been Eyes Wide Shut and Wizard of Oz. They played Coachella dressed like characters from WOZ and entered the stage playing "Speak to Me" and "Breathe" from "Dark Side of the Moon". The video of that is available @ youtube.com. Funny to see Cee Lo dressed as the Mean Ol Lion.
