"Stranger In Moscow" is the best song on HIStory

SIM is definately the best song on HIStory, and I believe it to be one of the best song of MJ's career. Simply brilliant.

I haven't listened to it in a while, but it really captured the essence ofwhat MJ was feeling at the time. When MJ is on point with his song writing, he produces gems smile

I think Earth Song is better, and I like This Time Around the most. But for better or worse only MJ could do something like Earth Song lol you either like it or don't. Stranger In Moscow is a perfect track I'll give you that, with great production. Put that in the list of great songs with unnecessarily long or weak intros (like Holy Diver or Aldo Nova's Fantasy...seperate thread).

Disc 2 woulda been perfect w/o 3 or 4 tracks at the end.

I have to agree..."Stranger In Moscow" is not only the best song on History, it's the best song he's recorded in the last 10 plus years...It shows a lyrical maturity that MJ rarely displays....A great song all around...

or

What made Stranger In Moscow, so amazing was a combination of great lyrics and stunning musical orchestration.
The music by itself can stand on its own,
adding lyrics and beautiful vocals just sweetens the deal.

Might i mention Jackson produced it himself...
which basically states...
instead of hiring comercial producers to paint his work
he should do it himself...
afterall...
at his age it shouldn't be about making hits

should be about preserving his artistic vision

Sure is nice tho 2 have a top ten hit ain't it.....?

HIStory is good overall, but there is 2much angst throughout 4 it 2 b anything else- he is, mostly, 2 caught up on it in defending himself and blasting his accusers etc

i'd say Stranger is almost as quality as Billie Jean...but that Earth Song is rot...only MJ fans would even consider that song being a classic....thats what seperates a classic from the rest..when the rest of the world takes notice..

and only mj fans ever note earth song...

not really it was one of his biggest hits, and I know for a fact it is one of his most beloved songs in east...

you may not like the 'save the world' theme but unarguably iy is his one of his finest pieces musically, the climax and everything smile

biggest hits where?

and its not a matter of "save the world" themes or any other themes..the song is not memorable..you play any part of billie jean (the bass, the guitar solo, the chorus) and people say "billie jean"..you play parts of "Earth Song" and aint nobody gonna know the song..unless your an mj fan...

which hey, you mj fans like the song...SUPER. but come on now, no delusions of grander please...

UK top 100 chart run: 1,1,1,1,1,1,2,5,10,19,26,38,16,29,38,48,75,88,98,out
UK sales: 1,040,000

This was the 3rd HIStory single to be released worldwide except in the USA where instead This Time Around was released to radio only. In the UK it was released November the 27th and debuted at #1 and stayed there for 6 weeks becoming the all important Christmas Number One. This was the most successful UK Christmas No.1 since Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" (which kept Heal the World from #'1) 3 years earlier. Earth Song stayed in the top 75 for an incredible 17 weeks (his second longest running single ever) and sold over a million copies becoming platinum and his best selling UK single ever. The recent 50th anniversary of the UK singles charts places Earth Song as the 69th best selling single in UK chart history and is Michaels only entry in the top 100.

This was therefore Michael Jackson's biggest UK hit ever and it helped HIStory's sales a great deal by keeping it in the top 10 during the important xmas sales period and helping sales pass 1 million units.

European success was also huge where it reached #1 in the Eurochart (for 1 week) and it remained in the chart for 24 weeks (the same as You Are Not Alone). It also stayed at number 1 for 5 weeks in Germany selling almost a million copies and was top 5 across nearly all of Europe.

Other Countries chart performance :

Germany: #1 (for 5 weeks)
Switzerland: #1 (for 4 weeks)
Latvia: #1 (for 1 week)
Austria: #2
Belgium: #2
France: #2
Ireland: #2
Netherlands: #3
Holland: #3
Denmark: #4
Norway: #4
New Zealand: #4
Sweden: #4
Hungria: #6
Italy: #6
Finland: #8

Alot of people have mentioned D.S.

What do ya'll see in that song? IMO it's annoying and repetative. I don't like it at all.

The only good thing about the song is that it's about Tom Sneddon, and I think that's why people like it. But he could've done a better job of flaming Tom Sneddon if he wanted to. This song is shit to the max. If I was Tom Sneddon I'd be pissed off. Not because 20 million people heard the lyrics "Tom Sneddon is a cold man" but because the only song in pop culture that's dedicated to me is shit house. If I was Tom Sneddon and MJ made an awesome song with lyrics about me being a bastard, I probably wouldn't mind.

I think "Stranger in Moscow" along with it's video shows a great testiment of how Michael Jackson really is as a person. I really think he feels alone. And I don't want to hear "what about his fans" stuff neither. This person is really a prisoner of his fame. Also a media matyr for the public. So unfortunate at times to be born too sensitive. He needed more attention from his father due to that but unfortunately he didn't receive it. I love the visual of the song and the dynamics of the track. I put it up there with Prince's "Scandelous"!

nicely said. Unfortunately if he wasn´t that sensitive, he could never be such a great artist.
