I got one album by Instant Funk, The Funk Is On, and that stuff is pretty damn mediocre in my opinion... As for "I Got My Mind Made Up"... the song is pretty hawt

When I was a little kid, my uncle took me to go see Instant Funk w/ Evelyn
"Champagne" King (opener) at a free show at the college near by me. Evelyn came
out and rocked the crowd and did all her hits. Quick intermission and Instant
Funk came out with their makeup, costumes, and light show and went right into
"Got My Mind Made Up"..The crowd went ballistic, everyone was cheering and
dancing and throwin' down. They did the long version and got the show started
right....or at least they THOUGHT they did.

After a couple of tunes, the crowd started to lose some interest so they
started to leave. The band noticed this and slipped a quick medley of
"Got My Mind Made Up" back into the set. Then people started coming back to
their seats. Then a few songs later, people started leaving and the band would
start chanting "I GOT MY MIND MADE UP"! just to keep some people in their
seats and they weren't even playing the real music behind the chant..This
cat and mouse game went on until people just got tired and left..and the band
still had 25 more minutes of music left!!

So as a reminder to the up and coming music stars of the future..SAVE THE HIT
SONGS FOR LAST!!!

No, I got what you meant. Even by then she'd had bigger hits. Killing Me Softly is probably better known to this generation (thanks to "One time...TWO time!"), but at that time The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was a monster hit. She actually won the Record of the Year Grammy twice in a row, once for each of those two hits.

Actually, Evelyn "Champaign" King should have been the headliner for that show. That way, people would have to stick around to see her show. I don't know when this tour was but I'm guessing that it was early in both their careers for Instant Funk to be the headliner. I only remember one other Instant Funk song getting airplay and that was "No Stoppin' That Rockin" a few years later and Evelyn had many more hits under her belt by that time. There's no question as to who would have been the headliner by then.

As far as saving your only hit for last (that is if you only have one), that wouldn't work for someone like me because I'm the impatient type and would leave before they played it.
