I did the case logic binder thing for when I was at school, but now I got book shelves... and some unsightly plastic "underbed containers" that aren't under my bed redface

Just about 250 cds, closed in a desk - they seldom see the light of the day. Plus 2 cd shelves.

All of my discs are digitalized at high quality in ogg vorbis (quality 6.61) in a digital library which reside on an external harddisk. A few Mp3s (from downloading) as well as WMAs and FLACs are thrown in. Generally I have several big directorys (jazz, classic, popular... okay, these suck, but I did not know how to manage best), and subdirectories (e.g. Prince), as well as "Pools" (songs that come from anywhere, without an album). My favourite selections (complete Prince, complete Zappa, complete Bowie... etc), are duplicated on my notebook.

Extolling the virtues of ogg vorbis, in bold print no less! Listen to this guy.

My about 300+ records sit on my kitchen counter right now

my 900+ CD's are in books, and in the CDR spindles on the floor next to the computer,

My cassettes are in the garage and in a plastic bag by my computer

My CD COVERS are EVERYTHWERE. Bunches of em in a bag, bunches of em in a stack, bunches of em in a plastic bin...

case logic holds about 400 cds and bins from Container Store hold about 500 lps....i throw away the jewel boxes and cd booklets...i mean, who reads those more than once anyways....plus they are not as cool as vinyl....my next move is to put all of it on an i-pod....or not....the need to listen to my whole collection on shuffle or buy stuff online isn't a priority

about 80% of my CDs are in binders like this, filed alphabetically by artist (or by title, if it's a compilation or a soundtrack). i have a drawer for CDs i don't want to dismantle or that came in fancy packaging, and i have a shelf on my bookcase for stuff in fancy packaging that is either REALLY fancy or that i listen to a lot. oh, and i have a small spinner rack for all my bowie and prince CDs.

if you visited, you wouldn't believe that i had over 1,000 cds. they're very well concealed. biggrin

depends on if there's information i need on the traycard. if there's a tracklist on the CD itself or in the booklet, i toss the traycard.

though, the more i use stuff like Nero and iTunes that can instantly call up CD tracklist info when i put it in my computer, the more i've been tossing the traycards regardless.

Yeah I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I keep the booklet and cover. I also keep the traycard (didn't know what it was called) if it has good art work or track listings. I'm always afraid one day I'm gonna know who wrote that song or who's playing keyboards, etc. I need something other than the disc to connect to the music or artist. Bad enough it's digital.

Never thought about the Case Logic scratching up CDs. So far the ones I put in there I don't play very often so it hasn't been a problem yet but I guess that's something to consider.

The CDs I treasure stay in their jewel cases right on the CD shelf.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

What did you all do with the jewel cases? That's alot of fucking plastic... and could still be functional for someone.

Like I said I once left all of the cases at my mama's house, and just took CDs in about 3 or 4 binders to college.

If I was looking for a song, of course I knew exactly what CD to go for... so it's not like I reeeeally needed the tracklists.

But still. confused

I don't throw anything away because I never know when I may get the urge to sell that old CD on ebay. Plus I like seeing all my stuff on display. It's a taurus thing.

Tauruses tend to be materialistic. It makes us feel good to have our prize possessions in view.
