Recommend some new CDs for me - please!

Hello, orgers! It's my birthday next week and my family's been asking me what I want. I want new music, but I'm not sure what to ask for. So, I turn to you. The new Fiona Apple? The semi-new Kanye West? All suggestions are welcomed!!!

Thanks!

The new Jamiroquai CD 'Dynamite' is very good.

The new Earth Wind and Fire CD 'Illumination' is great.

On the same gasp of breath I may suggest the original poster the following titles:

IRM - Virgin Mind
Brighter Death Now - Kamikaze Cabaret
Merzbow vs. Nordvargr - Partikel
The Phantoms - Tonal

You'll love 'em!

The Like - Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?

The album is produced by Wendy Melvoin so there is a Prince connection. I absolutely love this record. It's makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I am a fan of the album by The Like. I said it in another thread, but it reminds me of early 90s vocal pop along the lines of The Las and others.

the new fiona apple is good but find the "original", unreleased version online instead. its got much more character than the version officially released. sufjan stevens's illnoise is phenomenal, wolf parade's apologies to the queen mary is great, and the like's are you thinking what i'm thinking is a lot of fun. the new kate bush is sure to be wonderful (7 nov is the release date i think).

or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, tell your friends/family to pick up those cds that you've always "meant to buy" but never got around to it. they sometimes make the best musical gifts!

Stay away from all of the above mentioned music! Unless you are a boring top 40 clone or something.

Pick up some new exciting music like:
The Donnas - Spend The Night or Gold Medal
Magic Numbers
Paul Westerberg - Mono

or some classics like:
Alice Cooper - From The Inside
Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures
James Brown - Love Power Peace

Or, you may not have heard much Shuggie Otis - get Inspiration Information

Stay with the real music.

Hmmm...Alice Cooper, James Brown, Frank Zappa - they all had top 40 hits confused

LOL, those artists wish they had a top 40 hit. I think Kate is the only one to ever hit the top 40 ("Running Up That Hill") and that was only once!
