Toni Braxton "No one sing anymore"

"Staying motivated can be really hard, says Braxton, "especially in this business where it's changing. For example, when I first came out, it was about big ballads. Now, it's not about ballads as much, so it's hard for me as a singer to get motivated to do songs. I find them less challenging to sing. I could be in the studio for 15 minutes singing a song, and, then, sometimes I find that I don't know what to do because it's so not complicated to sing it. I may be in there for two hours singing a song that would normally take about 45 minutes because I would have to find a way not to oversing it, so it's played out now, so, I can't sing those [kinds of] songs anymore. I have a problem adjusting to songs that call for less vocal approaches. Holding back is a challenge for me because no one sings anymore."

I really hope that Toni makes a comeback, radio have ignored the 4 tracks they already sent/leaked to radio.

love Toni...

a great vocalist.

i think she should just be free to do what she feels. not the R&B pop thats out. it doesnt suit her style at all.

Ever since Toni got a weave and discovered she can be a sex symbol the bitch stopped singing! -- All I hear now are MUMBLES... the only thing I heard in the 'man enough for me' song was.. he wasn't man enough for me! Damn, articulate your words so I can hear the lyrics dammit! -- Don't get me wrong I loved Toni all the way until 'Unbreak my heart' but after that she stopped singing like she did when she was with babyface! neutral

I agree that she needs really good material to stand out from the Ashanti's. I', sorry but the kid's don't want an old Ashanti...they don't even want Ashanti anymore! "Please" is nice but it is mumbled and sounds "He Wasn't Man Enough 2005" (actually, more like 2002, but who's counting on how dated it is).

Over on AOL, Lil' Mo was saying the same thing about no one singing anymore. She said the only singers she likes now are Faith Evans, Fantasia and Mary J. Blige.

Why doesn't she just sing? Does she think Luther Vandross would have stopped singing just because hip hop is more popular?

She's beautiful & talented, but she tries WAY too hard to be "what we want her to be." Not just musically, but with outfits that look ridiculous. She looks better in jeans & t-shirt than she has in any of her red carpet outfits.

Toni should just be Toni. There is still an audience out there that'll support her so if she's true to her work, the people will recognize it and buy it if they wish. I bet you if she sang the way she did between 1992-1997, she'd be big again. Like Andyman91 said, just sing.

That's our point Cal - We know Toni can sing her ass off - we know she's not talentless however, lately she's been slackin on her pimpin- and that's why her album isn't getting the play she wants it to or coming anywhere close to her previous efforts --- Ex: she sung(ok not sure if that's a word just skip it) a tribute to Gladys Knight on this years BET awards and the heavy breathy sexy voice and the slinky dress just didn't fit into a tribute song for Gladys in my opinion -- I just want her to SANG like she used to.

My point is y'all trippin' lol razz I thought she sounded great on that show. Can't remember the outfit but I don't remember having a problem w/ it either. Whatever, I just hope she has good material on this new album smile

Well, Toni is a much better singer than Ashanti but she's getting subpar material...nothing that works for her. But the way the industry is run, people forget her "early" hits. They might not even know her for "He Wasn't Man Enough....". Considering she had one album do poorly and this single isn't racing up the charts, she's in trouble.

His audience came back with "Take You Out". All it takes is a good amount of promotion. Luther diffently change and evolved as he went on...."Take You Out" sounds new but it's still true to what he does. Toni could learn a lesson.

I thought her Grammy dress was hot. Didn't Kylie's white outfit from the "Can't Get You Out..." video came not to long after? I thought the media criticism over it ("Trying to be J. Lo...." was absurd and frankly racist.

She's worn a lot of outfits that just made her look anything other than classy which I always saw her and her music as being. That Grammy dress just wasn't looking right no matter who wore it.

J-Lo's dresses, over (or not much over) the top as they might be, have always fit her. Toni's dresses always look awkward.

She needs to hook up with Babyface and do what she does . I hate when people change for no reason . She sold records because of her style of music . Its time to take it back to her 1st two albums . People will buy it .

I love her first two albums. The songs produced by Babyface are all excellent ("Let It Flow","Breathe Again","Another Sad Love Song","There's No Me Without You","Love Shoulda Brought You Home,"etc).Back then, she was a classy vocalist singing mature,well-written songs for an adult audience. But then she started dressing like a hoochie mama and working with producers like Rodney Jerkins, trying to appeal to a younger crowd. Her last CD even featured some hip-hop sounds! It's not the Toni Braxton I wanna hear.
