she invited india on her show to perform the song and jumped up and down saying "we women need this message" crap....and then she went home and pulled out her dark and lovely relaxer kit...

could you imagine oprah relaxing her own hair?or beyonce for that matter? tilting their head under the sink to get it wet.....plastering that sh*t on with a ice cream stick.... burning the nap of their necks.....shampooing and checking the water for "pink:...

biggrin

lol
Okay I think I remember that. I don't think Oprah will ever not relax (or press) her hair. What's her hairdresser's name--Andre? I'm sure it's especially easy when you've got someone to hook you up at your beck and call but I am glad she doesn't wear ridiculously extravagant weaves and extensions of all colors. If she did go au naturale she may look nice with someting like B. Smith's. With the thickness of her hair they could twist it and finger it out and she'd have a cute curly-fro-do.
[Edited 8/22/05 8:05am]

she did that.after someone got after her (i think it was toni morrison)....but for some reason she went back to "pressed"....

Well not that I've joined this discussion I'll add that I think Beyonce is pretty but she always looks to 'busy' for me. Then with the clothes she wears...
omg

I can not stand women that wear a lot of makeup, bronzer, big busy hair--wigs/extensions/weaves, severly shaped or drawn in brows, etc. It just seems like too much is going on and then I feel hot like temperature hot or claustophobia hot. I can't explain it, they just look 'busy'. How anyone can wear all that stuff in their hair for extended periods is beyond me.

I love a natural or semi-natural fresh look. Decent length carefree simple hair, natural or natural-looking color. Little to no makeup or natural looking makeup and simple classic fashionable outfit.

That's just my preference for all women.

LOL...you're funny

MJ is a man, that's why he gets alot of flack.Generally,it's highly unusual for a black man to bleach his skin, have multiple face-lifts and nose jobs, wear lipstick, and shiny jet-black wigs.I'm a fan of his,but come on....you know damn well why he gets alot of flack for his appearance.

i wasnt trying to be funny..

i think its disgusting that black women have to make themselves look "euro" in order to feel beautiful.

and i think its disgusting that black men uphold this pathetic mindset. gone are the days when "pressin" your hair was the easiest way to manage your shit...

Yes I am!!!!! damn it!!!!

and as far as all that beyonce being euro thing...well, I think that we can take being "natural" too far as well. I'm all for women especially black women to start loving our natural hair and beauty but I don't think that means you can't die your hair and have some fun as well. Beyonce is what I call "expected beauty"....light skinned, long hair, blah, blah, blah....she's a pretty girl but nothing new or different. I like the blonde on HER....and I don't look at Beyonce thinking she's setting black women back. For many black AMERICAN men, she is what a black woman should look like...that's the unforunate part. sad

Personally, I think hair is like earrings...just an accessory and doesn't always have to be a political statement....

as i twist my locs

Yeah, yeah, yeah...whatever - WE JUST WANNA SEE THE TITS! SHOW US THE TITS, RHONNI! biggrin razz biggrin

I know exactly what you mean sosgemini...

I couldn't believe that hair in "Me Myself & I" video... that was definitely Euro.

There are some people out there who are white that think that black women are trying to be white by getting these weaves and blond weaves. One of my friends were talking and she said that Beyonce and Christina Milan look white. No offense but I have to agree somewhat. Beyonce always wears those blond weaves and her skin looks almost white at times. I saw Christina Milan on Bet 106 and Park and she looked pretty close to white! eek

How so? Weaves are not the problem. It's the value attached to certain textures being worn by certain people that is.

I think a cool wig was for the "Work It Out" video. Oddly funky yet rigid track.
