Orgers reviews 4: Missy's - The Cookbook 7/05

So far the album sounds alot like an old skoo record, lots of uptempo tunes. She's not really saying anything special in particular but the beats are cold.

Joy - The beat is ok, but Mike Jones just left me limp mad 6

Partytime - Good jam which mainly borrows from J.Giles Band's Partytime. 7. SOunds like a "Under Construction" leftover.

Irresistable Delicious - Another ol skoo '89 soundin jam, it goes in and out of tempo. Missy tryin to rap like Slick, then going in2 a slow jam with Tweet on backin vox. 7

Lose Control headbang 10 party

My Struggles - Missy once again in 1991 or 92 mid-tempo underground beats..nothing really said much here, but I love Mary J comes on sounding fresh out of 411. 7.

Meltdown - Probably will be a single. This mid-tempo jam is sweet and tight*, talks about her man not pleasing her enough in bed. Pretty laid back, and nasty nod lick 8

Click Clack - A South track, that aint really sayin nuthin...cudda been left off sad, sound like filler. 3

On & On
- Featured in the Lose Control video, headbangin nod dancing jig Poplockin' 9

We Run This - Hilarious and uptempo...u will definitley be dancin to this ol skoo cut, thanx 2 the Sugar Hill gang's Apache of course! The Asian nail salon break is absolutely hilarious. 9

Cant Stop - Rich Harrison produced this, so expect loud, bangin ass drum samples and Crazy In Love meets 1 Thing type beats over Missy doin her ramblings headbang 8

that's what Im lisenin 2 so far pretty nice so far...better than This Is Not A Test thus far...

I really wasn't feeling her previous album, This Is Not A Test. It just wasn't like her previous albums and it was a little on the experimental side. I'm definitely going to check this one out, though because I heard it's pretty good.

I'm really liking it so far. Feels a bit more rounded than the last one.

We Run This is defintely a highlight. And I also really like the slow jam after that one. Why she keeps working with homophobes like Vybz Kartel is beyond me, though

Ok eye heard the whole thing and I think it is a tight record. Not her best, still being Under Construction, but on top od "Da Real World" and "This Is Not A Test". It is a record that is really for the dancefloor, and tries some more to have us partying like 1983 as Cinne Cee said nod

I give it a 71/2 - 8. It kinda left me like....ok...especially "Bad Man" I didnt understand what that track was supposed to mean other than Missy tryin to give Reggae Rap artists a chance to shine, and sound like em.

The end interlude is funny.

It left me wanting more sad.

Its great for bumpin and jammin - back in the day style! smile

Pretty much agree...though I'm thinking it might be her best. Have to sit with it for a while. There are a lot of nice tracks. Can't Stop is really fun. So is Mommy (did she really just sing "Mommy looks fresh in respect-me sweats"??). Think she's going to have more than one hit on this one.

As long as

On & On
Mommy
Cant Stop
We Run This
Meltdown

come out as singles it will be big nod It always comes down to the ending. Missy has always dissapointed me when it comes to ending an album with the exception of Under Construction.
Good album, and I will definitley be having this on play all month long.

I still think her best record is Miss E...So Addictive. I also put Supa Dupa Fly above Under Construction and Da Real World.

I hated This Is Not A Test. barf

Nope, I'll have to buy it to hear it, but from reviews I can't imagine this being anything more than a fun throwaway record. Hey, she's still one of the best things out there, though.

Bad Man is going to KILL on the dancefloor, but you're right...what's it all about? I hear something about killing "rude bad girls," but I'm hoping she just means, like, um, killing rude people. Sheesh.

Cant wait 2 watch the DVD

The TP.3 does have some excellent material on it, but it's real different from TP-2.Com and 12 Play, which are my favorite R. Kelly albums. The thing that really gets me underwheled about TP.3 is that the main theme is plain SEX- which is good and bad. The DVD is pretty good. Too bad it doesn't have any extras (just the feature and audio options). It's a paranoid movie. Overall, I give the whole album 3.5 stars.

I saw the first part of the Trapped video finally, and can now safely say that he has turned into the Joan Crawford of R&B. It's really to0 hilarious to hate.

copped it today!! lovin' it!!

"On And On" is the best....

I was following along with the liner notes and I thought the next song was gonna be "Click Clack" and remembered Izak saying he didn't like it, and I was thinking what? this is haaat!

I only saw the video once but I recalled that the song i was listening to sounded like the outro on the video, and realized it was the Neptunes track.
doh!
I was actually listening to "on and on"... then I realized the tracklist on the back didn't match up to the liners.

I think it's probably a more cohesive 'albums' album, but
I find rather dissapointing..a bit 2 generic in parts..
Mary J. Blige is cringeworthy..

No, it's supposed to be "Teary Eyed"
