LUTHER VANDROSS RIP Luther Vandross died this morning. I am so close to tears right now. I didn't get the info of how he died but he was a diabetic so that might be part if not all of the reason. I jus wanted to to tell you guys that he has passed on. RIP babe.
[Let's keep our reflections and tributes to this thread as much as we can. When the length of this thread gets too unruly, we will do our best to create new threads to further the discussion without causing too much inconvenience for everyone. Thanks, Anx] ------;;;;;'

This news truly breaks my heart. One of my all time favorite musicians/vocalists has passed on and the world, especially the music world will never replace him. I just want to take the time to acknowledge Luther's genius and to thank him for hours upon hours of mindblowing listening experiences. His voice was classic and he had a timelessness that transcended his music. Moreover, he was one of the few artists with that rare ability to cover a song and make it his own, as well as being a damn good songwriter, arranger and producer. Vandross authored many of my all time favorite jams and was also major influence on another classic ballad, Prince's Adore. Another music legend/genius is gone too soon but atleast we have the memories and music to sustain us.
God rest your soul Luther, and may you find the peace that we all search for. My life and ears are better for having known your genius!

Out of love for Luther, I won't quibble!!
The last of the "great" balladiers is gone. I was just thinking of him this very morning and I asked someone if they'd heard anything about how he was doing. I had no way of knowing, he was just about to leave us behind. My love for Luther was just as deep as my love for Prince. His music stirred my soul! He can never be replaced! My condolences to his mother and his fans, all over the world. He will be GREATLY missed!!!! [Edited 7/1/05 15:23pm]

Luther, you are one classy dude. Everything you touched was magic. May your legacy live on forever. Peace

I found a really excellent web page about the making of David Bowie's Young Americans album, with several pictures I'd never seen of Bowie and Luther in the studio making the record:

Isn't it odd that not a single site is reporting this?

i think the news has *just* come out, even though he passed away this morning. i'm guessing that the family wanted some time to process before the news went public, and that the news hasn't been released as of yet by a publicist but rather to radio stations and fans by his family or those close to him. that's just my speculation...

Definately one of the best vocalist of our time and a true class act. My favorite song by Luther is from his debut album from 81, "Never To Much". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

http://members.ol.com.au/...icans.html Very cool. Yeah, that's when I first became aware of Luther, was by his name on the credits on "Young Americans". Then from his hit "Never Too Much" which is such a great song. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
