The Official Michael Jackson in Court Thread XVII: Verdict - NOT GUILTY

Wow - what an incredible turn of events.

Some will say they deliberated too long. Some will say they deliberated too little.

Everyone has an opinion as to what happened yesterday in Santa Maria. The FACT is, there was not enough evidence to convict him beyond a reasonable doubt. Justice was served.

These threads have been an incredible record of views from those who like and dislike him... I hope the links to them are available for review for a long time.

Thank you all for participating in the threads, this will be the final thread on this topic by me... smile

"she admitted how much she had disliked it when the mother had snapped her fingers at the jury. "I thought: 'Don't you snap your fingers at me, lady',"

"it also reflected badly on the boy's mother ,What kind of mother in her right mind would allow that to happen, to freely volunteer your child to sleep with anyone, not just Michael Jackson, but anyone"

Not entirely comfortable that they took these points into consideration....personal opinion in such an importnat and high profile case???

And the last point - how can you switch the blam like that?

Ah well....maybe next time

Part of the reason that you have live testimony is to be able to judge a witnesses credibility, not only by what they say, but how they say it.

Also i was watching Inside Edition or Extra or one of those called info shows, and the Older lady who winked at the camera after her "dont snap at me." comment, which by the way made just too GOOD of a sound byte. But the woman basically said that Mj was guilty, of something, but there just wasnt enough information given to them by the Prosecution.

So I have to say that not guilty doesnt mean innocent.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Michael Jackson's lawyer said Tuesday that the pop star is going to be more careful from now on and not let children into his bed anymore because "it makes him vulnerable to false charges."

In an interview with The Associated Press the morning after Jackson's acquittal on all counts, Thomas Mesereau Jr. said he is convinced that the pop star "has never molested any child." But he said Jackson will continue to be "a convenient target for people who want to extract money or build careers at his expense."

Mesereau's remarks came as at least three of the jurors in Jackson's case said that they suspect the 46-year-old pop star has molested boys, but not necessarily the one who accused him in court.

Jackson himself remained out of sight after being found not guilty on charges he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at his Neverland ranch. But his Web site triumphantly ranked his acquittal alongside the birth of Martin Luther King Jr., the fall of the Berlin Wall and the release of Nelson Mandela.

Mesereau and his colleague Susan Yu spoke to the AP by telephone, and both defense lawyers described Jackson as the most vulnerable person they have ever met. They said he is physically depleted from the four-month trial and needs rest before venturing back into the public.

Mesereau said he has been baffled by the public's willingness to believe unfounded charges against Jackson.

"It doesn't make sense to me. He's unquestionably one of the finest human beings I've ever been privileged to know," Mesereau said. "He is very generous and caring about everyone in his life and he was very easy to work with."

Because of public perceptions, he said, Jackson will have to change his lifestyle. "He's going to have to not let people easily enter his life. He was very generous to people who didn't deserve it," Mesereau said.

As for letting children sleep in his bed, "he's not going to do that because it makes him vulnerable to false charges."

Prosecutors were allowed to support the allegations that Jackson abused the 13-year-old in 2003 by bringing in evidence of inappropriate behavior with other boys, even though those purported incidents never led to criminal charges.

Some jurors indicated that they were inclined to believe Jackson had such a past, but that it did not prove the current allegations against Jackson.

"He's just not guilty of the crimes he's been charged with," said Ray Hultman, who told the AP he was one of three people on the 12-member jury who voted to acquit after the others persuaded them there was reasonable doubt. "He probably has molested boys at some point."

Two other jurors and one alternate who appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" raised their hands when asked if they thought Jackson may have molested other children but not the 2003 accuser.

"We had our suspicions, but we couldn't judge on that because it wasn't what we were there to do," said Eleanor Cook, 79.

Jackson, who appeared to grow steadily weaker as the trial ground on, looked frail as he left court Monday, and his father, Joe, said later he went to bed after returning to Neverland.

The Jackson Web site mjjsource.com, however, was triumphant and flashed images of the pop star looking vigorous.

"Innocent," the site declared, flashing dates and the phrases "Martin Luther King is born," "The Berlin Wall falls," "Nelson Mandela is freed," and finally, "June 13, 2005, Remember this date for it is a part of HIStory" — a reference to Jackson's 1995 album "HIStory."

Mesereau and Yu said they have not discussed Jackson's future with him. Mesereau also said that he was first contacted by Jackson's family when authorities raided Neverland in late 2003, but he did not take over the case until months later.

"I think we were on the attack from the opening bell," he said. "My strategy was to never let up."

<----relieved MJ was finally aquitted.

Although, I wonder how MJ, his familly and the crazed fans outside the courthouse would have acted had he been found guilty and hauled away in handcuffs to the local jailhouse. hmmm I'm sure Nancy Grace, CourtTV and the media outside of the court would have loved that scenario.

I personally think it was a big day in history up there with all them other events - only time will tell - no one can comment on how it will be perceived in years to come - if anyone does have a right to decide if it was a monumental event of their history - it is Michael Jackson!!

Oh, please! The day means nothing to non-Michael Jackson fans. To compare it to Nelson Mandela being freed or the day that Martin Luther King was born is fucking ignorant. This 'event' has changed history/is history making in what respect?

clapping Good Question Stymie. The world is no different than it was on June 12th.

Very true....I have to say that a lot of MJ fans on this site (I myself was riding with MJ from Destiny to Thriller, with a little bit of "Remember The Time" thrown in) have got things twisted. As stated several times, the reason why MJ was found not guilty was because Prosecutors had a hard-on for dude and weren't thinking rationally...They brought in a flawed case when they introduced the conspircy charges...Now in our heart of hearts we all know something unlawfully took place...But unlike a lot of cats, I want to see the man get some serious help...Jail won't help him...He needs some mental help...And can people stop saying that the man will never match Thriller?...Of course he won't because the days of having that type of mammoth success is dead and gone...Different time, different era....

SassyBritches

i'd like to see mike file a malicious prosecution charge on the santa barbara police department. michael, for being michael, was treated inequitably by the DA's office and the police department and judging from the things i've read and seen, he could have a case against the state.

i find it very interesting that santa barbara spent more money on this case...way more money...than they ever have for a MURDER case. yes, michael jackson was most certainly treated differently because of his celebrity but no tin the way most people have suggested. michael was treated differently, with injustice, because of who he is and what his image is. the prosecution went into this case without any objectivity and, according to tom mesereau, without any background of the accuser. you find me a common case where the background of a plaintiff is not investigated. it rarely, if ever, happens. the DA (usually) wants a reliable plaintiff if they are going to move forward on a case. we can see by how much reasonable doubt existed...and how much of that reasonable doubt stemmed from the lack of reliability on the part of the accuser...that the prosecution did not spend any time looking into the possibility that michael did not commit the crime.

they wanted to believe the charges and they acted on that desire to believe rather than acting as professionals with the interests of BOTH parties at the center of the investigation.

I'd just venture to say that the cost alone for added police force due to what MJ is/was but also the added police to keep control of a crowd that numbered in the hundreds on a day to day basis wasn't due to the prosecution and/or their case. The $$$ was due to the celebrity factor and the fan factor. That is what was expensive.
