Unfortunately for Janet, her brother's problems always seem to happen just when she is preparing/promoting a new project.Remember in the summer of 1993 when she released a new album ('janet.')a new movie 'Poetic Justice' and unveiled a sexier image? It was supposed to be her big summer, but it was slightly overshadowed by her brother's molestation scandal. Then,in 2004,her 'Damito Jo' project was, once again, overshadowed by her brother's latest molestation charges.I'm sure she loves Michael, but she's probably thinking "Damn you Michael" lol

We just had this fucking thread maybe 2 weeks ago. It was called "Janet - Throb" and the original poster asked if Janet's career was over and if she could make a comeback.

Honestly it's Janet's decision whether or not she is to make a proper commercial come back.

I'm sure she knows her brother is fucking over any chances of a good comeback at the moment, but if she wants to be there with him, more power to her.

Besides, she just released DJ last year, so MJ will either be living away from her or in prison by the time she goes out to promote her new album. Hopefully they will avoicd asking questions about MJ and the trial every 2 seconds.

Before she does interviews, her manager instructs the journalist to NOT ask any questions about Michael.I'm sure this will be the case in the future, more so than ever before.

Oh for certain. In fact, i bet that's all they'll want to ask her.

And i'm sure all her interviews post 1993 have been the same.

Janet: A more aggressive sound.I want to take it to the next level, you know
interviewer: sounds great! Will any songs be about the current problems facing your brother?
Janet: Fuck you. This interview is over.

I do think that the general public will not hold Michaels's guilt (altho i think his innocent) against her, Janet has worked hard and successfully made her identity in the industry...didn't you guys hear control? razz

If her next album's strong with a couple of great singles on it, then I don't think the public will give a fuck about what her brother did or didn't do to Gavin Arvizo. I certainly won't.

What does Janet's career have to do with MJ's legal trouble/career?

To be honest, Janet looks all about done anyway. Her fan base is waning and the youngsters don't feel her. I honestly think she got with JD just to try and reach out to that new young crowd that is into weak ass acts like Ciara and Brooke Valentine.

Well, Janet is her own celebrity and she has made a name for herself. She's his sister, but that's where the connections stop. It'd be hella goofy for someone NOT to purchase Janet's music because of the goings-on of her older bro.

She reached legend status on her own.

I wouldn't say her moment was "overshadowed" by Mike's first molestation scandal. During the "janet." era she was at the peak of her commercial powers. Her album sat at #1 on Billboard's album chart for six weeks in the US and in the UK, had six top ten singles on the Hot 100 — "That's The Way Love Goes" remains her biggest hit to date and was #1 for 8 consecutive weeks back in 1993. "Anytime, Anyplace" was #1 on the R&B charts for over 10 consecutive weeks and is one of the biggest R&B singles in the history of the chart. Her song "Again" was nominated for an Academy Award.

So, needless to say, she was doing very well during this period. Mike didn't hurt her then and it isn't hurting her now. Matter of fact, Mike's career has never affected Janet's negatively.

Nah. The young'uns are STILL her core. Take a look at all the major Janet boards and read user profiles. Most of her fans are well UNDER 21. It's not like the Prince & MJ bases where the core tends to be 30 and up. Don't play "All Nite (Don't Stop)" at them 18+ clubs, those kids go bananas. It seems like Janet has perpetual youth appeal.

It's too bad that youthful enthusiam didn't translate into sales. ANDS was #1 on the dance charts, but the whole cd saleswise still was disappointing by Janet standards.

I agree that Janet has an unusually young fan base considering the length of time she's been in the business. However, I think even some of the younger audience was "put-off" by THE INCIDENT. (I don't even want to go there again.) Plus, the younger group IS well-aware of Janet's age. I mean, they like her music and all that, but at the same time, they also want to "idolize" artists a little closer to their own age, ya know?? I think Janet is in a very complex position at this point in her career coz she wants to appeal to the young folk, imagewise and of course musically, without looking foolish...like maybe someone's mother who is dressing too young to try to stay youthful and appealing.

Definitely, her older fan base is waning. I'm gonna be 35 and have been a fan of Janet's for a long, long, long time. I'm mean she IS in my age group, so I started following her when I was in my late teens early twenties. I have to admit though, there aren't as many older fans left. There are some, but not as many. I think to an extent it might be due to some "image" issues, but more likely is just a matter of musical taste becoming a little more sophisticated and diverse with age. I like ALL kinds of music, but I'll always support Janet even though I sometimes feel a little "old" to be a fan in spite of the fact that Janet is actually older than I am.

I find it funny that a lot of people (young AND old) think that Janet is "over 40." The woman just turned 39 this year. Especially post-Nipplegat, so many people were like "why is this old a** woman showin' her tit?" I can't tell you how many times I saw the age 40 WRONGLY REPORTED in journalist's columns and articles in 2004 (hello, she was 37 when Nipplegate happened).

I'm 23 and I've been in love with Janet for a larger portion of my life. I bought The Velvet Rope when I was a 16-year-old sophomore and haven't waned since.

I wish more of the older, more seasoned Janfans would participate in the forums. I feel like we've alienated a lot of them because a lot feel ashamed to share their age around us. It's reversed. On the org, the grown folks RUN the boards, on the Janet boards, the kids are running the show and the grown folks stay quiet about their age (except for a few). Which really takes a toll on the complexities of the conversations.

I'd love for the Janet forums to be as mature and musically eclectic as the org, but its hard when you have a lot of fans that are under 21, most of whom are into contemporary stuff like Beyoncé, Aguilera, Britney, etc. which makes it pretty hard to yield a lot of replies on topics like Level 42 and Boogie Down Productions. lol

Same can be said for any artist right now. Personally, I don't see it. It seems like everybody and their mama had the "All For You" album. Gracie, of course I know who you are*! You're very insightful over at the Xone. I enjoy reading your contributions to that forum.

Don't worry about the folks "hating" on your age or word-count in your posts. They're shielded behind big computer monitors safely typing away in their homes and office cubicles. So pay the occasional asininity no mind. I've gotten the same criticism at those boards (AND HERE, actually) for my posts. Sometimes it's upsetting, but I don't let it get to me.

The org is a home for me. I've been here for almost 3 years now. For about 1.5 years, this was THE ONLY board I participated in regularly. I would only lurk the Janboards for the latest news and that was it. I felt they were too immature to contribute to (one of the main reasons I don't go to VW or JJ.com). There are still some folks that get on my nerves at the Xone (and other Janboards), but people like you shouldn't leave because YOUR voice is needed. This is the internet after all — people say what they want.

Yeah, but come on...She may have been recording since 1982 but her biggest years were between 89 and 97. 300,000 units in her 1st week is strong...but what did it do after that? In Janet Jackson terms, DJ was a flop.

I think you and I have spoken on Janetxone. I'm Gracie. Yeah, I've thought about giving up posting on Janet boards, and just coming here coz I do feel out-of-place sometimes on Janet forums. In fact, I'm going through a moment of reflection AGAIN coz I think that I'm just not current enough or don't understand trends anymore. I've revealed my age on all of the forums coz I didn't think it was that big a deal at first. Plus, I come across as being older, so it no mystery that I was NOT in high school. Unfortunately, I think many of the younger fans just don't like responding to my posts because I am older. At first I shrugged it off, but now I must admit it is affecting me. I had someone tell me my message was too long to read the other day, so I cut it down. Of course, I come here, and MANY, MANY people write "essays."

I respect people no matter the age, so I never dismiss anyone's opinion. But I gotta say, that I do feel old at the Janet forums sometimes, and I'm really not that "old."

It's us gay people that keep our icons alive in a straight world! smile

LOL! More power to ya, dawg!
