Roosevelt DeVille a.k.a. Okaypimpn of The Verge EXCLUSIVE!

JAMIE FOSTER BROWN’S EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ROOSEVELT DEVILLE!
The Music, The Breakup and The Reunion

Sister 2 Sister Magazine July 2005

Jamie Brown: Hey Sugar! How has life been treating you?

Roosevelt DeVille: I can’t complain, baby, life is good! How have you been? You lookin’ pretty good there.

JB: Well thank you, sweetie. You know I’ve been hitting the gym lately. That and the Dick Gregory Diet.

RD: It’s workin’ for you!

JB: So, let’s get right into it! What’s new with you? What have you been up to these days?

RD: Aw man, where do I begin? You know last year I released my gospel album Roosevelt DeVille and The Sanctified Tambourines which did really well.

JB: Uh-huh.

RD: I won two Stellar Awards, one Dove Award and was nominated for a Grammy. It’s my best work to date and I’m extremely proud of how well it was received.

JB: Yes. Now that was a drastic move for you to make seeing as you had just left The Verge and recorded a very controversial album under the pseudonym “Trick Turner”

RD: Yeah, things were really bad for me around that time. I look back on it and can hardly remember it. It’s all a blur.

JB: So what sparked the change of heart?

RD: I realized that I was headed down a road of destruction and needed to find that peace of mind. It hand nothing to do with the fellas in the group. They may have been going through their own ordeals, but ultimately, the finger was pointed at me. I was my worst enemy.

JB: So, what’s this I hear about The Verge reunion album?

RD: Yeah, me and the fellas have been talking and would love to get back in the studio again. You know we just know each other. There’s nothing like performing with a group of people that know your next move before you even make it. Only thing is our contact has expired and we’re in the process of shopping for a deal. We may do the indie thing, though.

JB: So when can we expect it?

RD: Soon and very soon.

LATE BREAKING REPORT - DIRECT FROM LONDON

Skip Newsworthy here in London with Bob Geldof discussing a late breaking development regarding the upcoming LIVE 8 performances.

SN: So it appears that on Saturday 2nd July, 2005 you'll be having shows in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Philadelphia.

BG: That's correct Skip. We're trying to raise the public's consciousness so that when the G8 meets in July they'll know that the whole world's watching.

SN: That's great. But the thing i've been hearing is that you've got a surprise act under wraps that from what i've heard will also stun the world with their appearance.

BG: I can't really discuss that yet Skip because the details haven't been finalized but...

SN: What have we here? It's tA, guitarist from the historic band The Verge. Let me see if I can get him on camera. tA, tA.

tA: Hey Skip it's been a long time.

SN: I'll say. The last time we talked you were embroiled in a controversy during a rehearsal of The Sanctified Tambourines at the First 42nd St. Mt. Olive Greater Calvary Green Pastures Feed My Sheep Suffer Unto Me Little Children International Church of God in Christ Church.

tA: Just a bit of a misunderstanding Skip. All is well. God is Love.

SN: I was reading on the wire where your bandmate Roosevelt DeVille indicated that The Verve is thinking about recording new material for an independent release.

tA: That's what it looks like at this point. The majors are just too disconnected from the Real People.
They think they know what the people want but they really don't have a clue.
If all goes well, it'll be a 2-disc release with one of the discs being our LIVE 8 performance.

SN: So why are you actually here?

tA: I've been over here for a few weeks visiting friends. We were at a pub and ran into Bob. He told me that he'd heard about the reunion and asked if The Verge headlining LIVE 8 would be a possibility. Talked to some of the fellas and so far so good. The only stipulation was that we had to be able to appear at all 5 venues simultaneously.

SN: (puzzled) How is that possible?

tA: During an interview I did with Ed Bradley some time ago, I explained theAudienceHologramSystem (tAHS) which at the time was patent pending.Well the patent has been approved and i've been using the system successfully for a few years now. All I have to do is outfit the guys with a system each and we're in business.

SN: What other devices have you been working on?

tA: Chill Skip!

tA: We can't discuss those things here. Definitely not cool.

SN: Goodness, must be some pretty deep stuff.

tA: Kill it SKip or i'm out.

SN: OK, OK, back to the music. So you guys will actually be appearing at all 5 venues at the same time?

tA: That's the dealyo. The first semi-ubiquitous band in history.

SN: Amazing. Hopefully I can contact you for any further updates?

tA: More than likely. Take care.

SN: That's the latest from Skip Newsworthy signing off. Are we dark?

Hey tA do you think you can get me a number on those Heavenly Hoes?

...

From an interview in Nonesuch Magazine, July, 2005:

Verge bandmember Paligap, who is also a former member of the Collective Individuals, has been involved with a number of...."artistic"...innovations-- from "singing without singing" to alleged time travel. We caught up with him in the middle of Safeway supermarket recently to find out what he'd been up to...

NS: So how are ya doin'?

PG: oh, fine, fine...I'd actually taken some time off from the Music, y'know...just to chill, y'know? relax, get into some other things ...actually, I became part owner of a club, Extensions, right downtown...

NS: Really?

PG: Ndeed!! Last month was really cool...hosted a huge 70's party--that was wild,..lotta fun, Afros, stacks, Good music...
couple of weeks later, we had a huge 80's party...that was really kool, too...lotta fun, parachute pants, pleather jackets, Leg warmers, the whole nine...everybody had a great time. But yeah, just hangin'out and...

NS: So was there a 90's party?

PG: Oh....Well...Yeah, but that didn't work out so well...everybody just showed up, an' started shootin' at each other....
gangstas, Glocks, an shit....some of em' were actually trying to shoot on beat to the music, y'know? It was crazy....
There was actually only one person , thesexofit, that was actually dancing out there on the dancefloor! So, yeah, not agood idea...we probably shoulda left that one alone, huh?

NS: Wow....,well anyway,You were saying earlier that you had put everything on hold?

PG: Yeah, well after the time travel, an all that, I checked out Roosevelt DeVille and The Sanctified Tambourines, and that made me realize I had to slow it down a little...take some time off an' reflect, Y'know?

NS: So, are you're actively pursuing anything now?

PG: Yeah, that woman in Aisle 9, over there in frozen foods...Maan, would you look at that?...Damn! mmm, mmm...

NS: Mr. Gap?

PG: Hmmm?

NS: I was going to ask if you've given up the Music thing?

PG: Oh, No, No...as a matter of fact, I just talked to DeVille and theAudience about a Verge Reunion for Live8...

NS: Really? That's Great!

PG: Yeah, Yeah, In fact I'm really interested in this device that tA's got, theAudienceHologramSystem...I mean the idea that you can be in virtually five places at once....Man, that would get me out of all kinda jam's!! And I could...

NS: Uh Oh...You're not going to...

PG: hmmmm.....

NS: UhOh...

PG: hmmm.... Nah, I was just fuckin' wit ya! No, seriously , it sounds like a great idea ...I'm looking forward to it. It'll be good to get back with the band and....Oh, Man, my girl in Aisle 9 is on the move again! Gotta go!

NS: But Mr. Gap, if we could just...

PG: C-ya! Peace and Love, bro!

(end of interview)

Think of the possibilities for a knucklehead/gangsta/thug/crew reality-tv competition here.
Show takes place in an enclosed Escape From New York-syle set (complete with Snake Plisskin lookalike host).
The set is outfitted with the state-of-the-art * "World's Loudest & Most Dangerous Sound System".
If the competition doesn't get 'em the SPLs will do some serious damage. Bonus points for "on beat kills", hearing loss credits, etc.

Weekly elimination matches with the final round winners becoming the 1st new permanent residents of a revitalized Alcatraz.
Of course this small detail is not divulged until it's too late. evillol

hmmm You know, this has the makings for an incredible Verge Reunion/LIVE 8 promo campaign.

Hell, if Pink Floyd can do it we should be able to pull the original members together for this LIVE 8 thing.

E! Hollywood News!

Hello, this is Lisa Robinson and I'm at the Beverly Hills Hotel with The Verge's lead guitarist Christopher CoShea a.k.a blackguitaristz. Hello, black, how are you?
bgz: Fine, and yourself?
LR: Wonderful.
bgz: I'm diggin' those streaks in your hair.
LR: Oh,.. you like?
bgz: Very much so. Makes you look wild.
LR: (blushes) You're such a flirt, Chris.
bgz: I can dig it!
LR: The rumour is that you will be joining up with The Verge?
bgz: Never left, Lisa. We had already put out 2 albums in one year. Toured for both. We were kinda tired. So, to energize ourselves, we did some solo things. My last album, "Black Hippy Freak Kiss" did well, but it's time to turn it loose and wake up some old ghosts with The Verge.
LR: Oh, I'm so excited.
bgz: I can see that.

LR: Oh, I'm so excited.
bgz: I can see that.

Pt.2
This is Lisa Robinson. I am so sorry. We were rudely.... Chris?.. where are you going?..Oh, ..oh my..blackguitaristz has just grabbed my arm and we are...oh.. we are running through the lobby of (ooomph) The Beverly Hills Hotel. I've just been informed that the Michael Jackson verdict is in. I'm guessing we are going to your room, Chris? To see the verdict, I mean.
bgz: Yes, of course! Let's take the elevator. I'm on the fourth floor.

(a male's voice shouts out)
Male Voice: Hey, let go off that woman. Come back here! (gets on walky-talky)
Suspect, Christopher Coshea has just abducted a white woman in an elevator here at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Copy. Suspect: 5'9, slim build, long hair and sunglasses. early 30's. Female, dark brown hair with light streaks. 5'6, mid to late 20's. Requesting back up!

(Security guard gives chase)

LR: (to security guard) Oh.. (turns around) Oh no, it's o.k. I'm interviewing him!

(The elevator door shuts)

Pt.3

(The security guard is running through the lobby. He stops
suddenly)
Security Guard: (breathing heavily) Do you read me? Copy? Suspect: Black male, early 30's, slim build, long hair, sunglasses. He's abducted female, white or Hispanic, mid to late 20's. He's just taken her into the elevator. Post backup on various floors.

(Lisa and bgz inside elevator)
LR: I can't believe that guard thinking that you were taking me against my will. I mean, you know he recognizes you. he knows who you are. Chris, that is SO racist! I mean, oh my God!
bgz: Don't trip, baby. I don't get caught up. That comes with being black in America.
LR: So, are you a fan of Michael Jackson? Other members of The Verge?
bgz:We are fans of his music. We all are. Grew up on his stuff. The Jackson 5, his solo stuff. Sure. None of us can get with what he's been charged with, though. If it's true, we don't support what he's done. If it's not true, then, we pray that he gets help, regardless.

exclaim Got an idea fellas. Michael's gonna need something to keep himself busy.
Why don't we let him do a guest spot during our LIVE 8 set? nod

If this works out, i've got a total makeover plan for him
I just saw Revenge of the Sith last night and here's what i'm thinking.

His new album, that i'll produce, will be called...

...MJ Returns To The Darkside

This is not farfetched at all based on something I found online:

Disturbing similarities between Darth Vader & Michael Jackson:
Both used extensive surgery to alter their looks.
Both have a lot of plastic parts.
Both married Royalty
(M.J. was married to the"king" of Rock & Rolls daughter.)
Both had twisted mentors (Vader / Palpatine - M.J./ Joe Jackson)
Both have Stooges to do their bidding.
Both of them are Fathers
Both changed races
(sort of)
Both have walked on a moon
Both placed their offspring in danger
Both had morbidly obese friends
(Jabba/Liz Taylor)
Both gave into the Darkside

(well...one ran away from it)

Let's do it. thumbs up!

AL: Oh! Well wait no more, here comes Lauryn now! Oh Lauryn? Lau—

CD: Oh my! Was that Lauryn or Gilligan in a mushroom wig?

AL: I think it was Lauryn.

CD: Wow! I’m speechless.

AL: Yeah, tell me about it. Well, getting back to you, I hear that you and The Verge are planning a reunion album.
