"Bono wants to re-record 'Pop' album" According to this story:- http://www.nme.com/news/112435.htm
What do you think? There is definitely room for a few improvements but should an album be left alone once finished, or is re-recording OK?

I actually think it was a great album as is. Don't fuck with the past. Leave well enough alone.
They're so far past the aesthetics and mindset of that album, that I think it would become really watered down done by the current U2. I mean, what does he expect to accomplish with it anyway - win back the fans they lost with it the first time? They've already done that with their last 2 albums. U2 has always been so thoroughly modern and about NOW, that I don't like the idea of inter-decade U2s mingling. Bad idea.

"Pop" is amazing and I love the whole album!
I don't give a fuck what anybody else thinks! And the new mixes of "Discothéque", "Gone" & "Staring At The Sun" on the best of album are worse than the originals so this re-record thing is just !!! [Edited 5/25/05 2:05am]

Well, I think it is an album that suffers from comparison with the superior U2 albums that came both before and after it, but there are some definite gems on it - Discotheque is a great single for example - but I agree that once the moment has gone, you should leave it alone and move on. It reminds me of doing Art at school - no matter how long I worked on a picture, I always stepped back from it and thought "hmm, I just need to add this there ..." and "..Hmm, If I just change that bit a little..." and the final result was always that a piece of work that started off flawed but pretty good became over-worked and spoilt.

What I don't understand was the critics' perception of that album. They made such a fuss about, "Ooh...U2's gone electronica!" I know that was the big buzzword that year and they had to use it every chance they got, but it's really not that electronically driven. Aside from "Discotheque", "Mofo" and "Miami", it's just another rock record and even those songs had their concessions to rock. It's far less electronic and trippy than Zooropa or Passengers, and no one raised a big stink about those albums. I don't know if U2 would've recoiled from that album with this alleged 're-record' and the silly Best Of remixes and all the bullshit apologizing had the album been a success. It seemed like they were proud of and excited about it at first. [Edited 5/25/05 2:09am]

On a slightly different note, I saw U2 one time and one time only, and that was on the Pomart tour. It is easily one of the highlights of my gig-going life and if the band feel in retrospect that they were operating on autopilot or below-par, I have to disagree
Watching the Live In Mexico video, with the start of MOFO and Bono coming on like a boxer reminds me of what an impact that live show had...Quality stuff!

"Please" & "If God Will Send His Angels" are from the greatest songs they've ever recorded! It's sad that people can't move forward with time...what do they expect? Joshua Tree part 2, 3, 4...???

He should leave it as it is. Or remix it. But re-record it? Nah .... There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Don't anybody ever touch the masters of 'Pop'!!! Why? You'd have two for the price of...two. Anyway, as much as I liked that album I think the sound could be cleaner. I mean. When I buy a CD I want to be able to play it in a good player but also in the car or the computer or a portable device without it sounding like hell. The sound in this album is dirtied on purpose to make it cooler and I'm not sure I like that

He read a book where he found this town named 'Isten Szék' /Seat of God/. It's in Transylvania (now Romania) but it was a part of Hungary for more than a thousand years (896-1920)!!!

The orger's real name is Derek and he lives in Barnsley. He repairs vaccum cleaners for a living and has been happily married to Betty for 39 years. They have just one son, Tommy, who is a bit backward but works on a travelling fairground, operating the dodgems (or "bumper cars" as he prefers to call them).Tommy is not married but he likes "that bird off Corrie with the funny name".
